All depends on how you drive her. Keep to 80 and low revs whilst getting there, apparently you get around 25mpg, I have never done that and I get around 17 MPG, or 8 MPG if I am really in 'that mood' or on track. I have emptied the 80ish litre tank in 100 miles, the best I have got is 340, but I have heard 420 is possible. But with that sound track and the rewards you get from hitting the high revs (they need to be revved) then MPG is really not what it is about.
edited to add, fuel consumption, and stone chips are the only bad things about this car, IMO..I used to change my car every 2 years or so, but in March I will have had mine 6 years...says a lot really.

Yep I know it ain't gonna be frugal, but it would be my only car... I can live with 12MPG for the 5000 miles of fun at the weekend per year but need 25MPG for the 10,000 miles of commuting on the M3... looking at R8s too, currently in a 987 Boxster & struggle to get under 24MPG no matter how hard I drive it which is pretty good

We average about 19 to 20 mpg according to the dashboard readout.
I've never bothered to compare the reported value against actual though. It's not going to change the way I drive it so what's the point?
If you drive enthusiastically on a country road, be prepared for less.
Mine is normally 17-19MPG. Have had over 20MPG cruising on French motorwaysI've never bothered to compare the reported value against actual though. It's not going to change the way I drive it so what's the point?

Did get it below 3 on the instanteous readout once! Had to be done
On a commute on the M3 then you'll be lucky to do 80, so you'll be looking at 25mpg, not sure about R8's but 997's gen2's on a commute are about 34mpg and Gen 1's are about 28mpg, but when driven hard they are all about the same. They work as a commuting car well, comfy and really good in the rain, and a fantastic stereo (get the premium), servicing is similar to the Porsche, but if things go wrong they can be expensive. Also they clear a path through the Audi's hogging the fast lane on the M3 quite well!
Four years averaging I`d say 21mpg best over 200miles at26mpg but that is deliberately trying to save.
Worst round town 19mpg.
Other costs I think;
Depreciation Car came to me 6000 miles £63000 realistically now 22000 miles £30000 so approx £8000 p/a
Sevicing say £750 p/a
Repairs very little touch wood
Tyres 2 at about £550 the pair
ENJOYMENT PRICELESS

Just done a 5 day tour of the lake district, Mountain passes in snow, town driving and a 330 mile blast home (4.5 hours) averaged 20.1 mpg, not bad at all methinks, i don't get that much more out of wifeys 986 Boxster, and only get about 12 out of our range rover. However, during the AMOC track day, achieved 6mpg!!!!!
Interesting reading guys, seems a little painful but not too horrendous. I had a few laps round Bedford in my pal's 4.3 touch... I do think that the soundtrack, looks & interior are the best you can get, the shove was impressive too, plenty enough for me, very comfy too. Unlike the R8 I'd feel more comfortable parking it on the road as I think they are more subtle & less flash than the R8. I'd definitely be getting the roadster as I'm a bit of a 'hood down March - Oct' kind of chap. Any view on this?

It is possible to increase the mpg in a V8V by wearing a lighter tracksuit and shaving off your bum-fluff moustache
Yes!But the differential is less than a DB9 owner not taking his walking frame, pipe and slippers!
OP, I'd consider £1000 of diesel something or other to grind the M3 every day, Saab, Volvo or even a Beemer. You won't get much joy doing that day-in, day-out in the V8. Use it for fun, or on a nice day, or one where you're going in early or late, just to throw something different in there. It'll cease to be special to drive
