I have a rear tyre that is flat on my 56/07 model V8V and looking for some advice on if I should use regular tyre fitters or let AM dealer change it. I seem to recall stories of non AM garages screwing up the tyre pressure valves/system (but search ins't working on the forum at the moment).

It's a 50 mile drive to my nearest AM dealer (slow puncture by the looks of it so could probably drive there) or 3 miles to nearest ATS/Kwik fit.

What are people's experiences - am I just being paranoid that the local tyre fitters will screw up!

Thanks

As long as they take off the inside of the rim they won't go near the sensor which is on the end of the valve. Just make sure they are aware it HAS sensors.

Thanks for the quick replies - off to kwik fit it is.

Does the tyre pressure system need resetting after a change?

No it shouldn't as long as they dont knock it. They are easily broken! and last time I had one fitted it was £75. Not sure I'd trust Kwikf***up to do though. Whenever I've spoken to them about tyres they are one of the most expensive. You must have a local independent with a good rep?

I always use a small family run independent, for all my vehicles..... The Aston didn't phase them one bit....they went on line, established the jacking points, placed extra rubber pads on the jacks for protection, and completed the job (2 new tyres) for £100 less than the AM dealer...smile

And did you put the Aston recommended tyres on? (potenza or whatever).

I use tyres made from recycled tesco bags :-)
Was just asking because some don't.

Yep. ... Proper new AM spec Bridgestonessmile

And as I say best part of £100 cheaper than the dealer.... Who also told all sorts of fibs in an attemp to get me to go thererolleyes

1 they won't be the correct spec ( they were)
2 they'll be old stock (tyre place showed be date code, they were 6 weeks old)
3. They'll damage you're chassis (they double checked jacking points)
4. Your insurance company won't approve

They'll be square

You get the picture....

One of the main reasons I left the fold. The AM main dealer network, in my experience, were just awful.

I paid 500 all in for 2 new rear tyres on my db9 from Ric - others were even cheaper so Q F are seriously out of order

Well I'm sure I could get them cheaper if I shopped around a bit more but this seems reasonable from the AM dealer - of course they will no doubt find another £5k of work that should be done at the same time smile
