Saw this on detailing world and thought you guys might want to take a look.

Just shows how bad it is for your paint when you take it through an automatic car wash!

Actually, please do keep taking it through them, it keeps me in a job.......

Excellent post Francis, you can imagine how quite a few people will still use them though especially this time of year because they don't want to take time out to brave a bit of cold and damp to tend their P&J.

This is very true mate. However, if you wash your car by hand this time of year, i would suggest using a pressure washer or hose to remove any loose dirt that you see sitting on the car, especially around the wheel arches.

As ever I follow your instructions implicitly, your information and help has been invaluable to keep mine looking its best, it'd do a few of the newbies good on this forum to take a look at your advice in the FAQs . Are there any additional precautions this time of year regarding keeping our cars protected.

Thanks mate. Well everyone could use the automatic car washes once a week over the winter and then call me to make them shiny again.....

On a serious note though. Frequent safe washing (removing as much loose debris from the car before putting a hand on it) will help a great deal, but I would say, get a good quality wax, such as Swissvax shield, which is a great winter wax and put a couple of layers on and this will make washing much quicker and easier. Ideal at this time of year.

Then once a month or so, slap another coat on and you'll be set for the spring. With the wheels, you can use the same wax as the body, but these will see the greatest amount of salt etc, so just keep them clean and don't let the brake dust build up for too long, especially on v8v's with the older wheels, they are wry poor quality.

Always remember to dry your car with nice fluffy drying towels too and not a chamois or water blade. At this time of year, the risk of a tiny bit of grit you have missed is much greater and the last thing you want is for it to be pressed against the panel and taken for a ride across your paint.

Hope this helps. Of course, any questions, just drop me a message.

Francis

On a side note, if anyone of my Aston buddies wants any Swissvax waxes (over £100, which isn't hard) let me know and if you go through me, I can save you 10% and have it delivered to your door.

Best winter wax is shield, which is £130, but through me it's ) £117. Just thought I'd help, as you guys have been good to me.

Hey Francis, thanks, sound advice as ever.....a quick question....can I still use my Swissvax Best of Show wax in winter?

Also, I need some some more Swissvax car bath, can you do supply this for us also? If so how much? It smells sooooooo good!

Cheers,
Ray

Best of show is a very good wax mate, in fact it's my favourite and will last ages if you put a couple of coats on.

It does indeed smell lovely and for you mate, of course I can sort you out. I'll get on it this week.
