Bamford Rose upgrade (SLINC)
Discussion
Hi all,
Been a while since I posted up on my addiction to upgrading the Vantage so thought i'd share the news about a big change of tack with the exhaust system.
Some of you may recall I traded in my previous 4.3 for a 4.7 back in the Spring.
The first thing to address was replacing the OEM exhaust and cats with the Milltek units I had on the previous car.
All going well with this until a recent service revealed some "critical issues" with the system.
After hearing about the full upgrade Bamford Rose had brought to the market in association with Quicksilver I popped up to get a test drive in Pommehogster's much feted "Jessica" Vantage (fitted with the FULL system including race developed manifolds, in-house designed sports cats mated to a Quicksilver silencer. Plus the small matter of an engine upgrade from 4.3 to 4.7!)
I was simply blown away by the performance of this car and after some negotiation with Mike (BR boss)I signed up for the full system.
I collected the car recently and I'm absolutely overjoyed with the massive improvements across the whole of the performance spectrum.
Not only that but the exhaust note is now spot on. Although I went for the "quietest" of the Quicksilver silencers (Sports)it's distinctly more vocal than the previous Milltek with a deeper burble at tickover and a harder (goosebump inducing) edge towards the red line.
It's "crack cocaine" for the ears and since I took delivery the mpg has plummeted (constant bursts of acceleration) and the CD player has remained switched off!
The main point though is the sheer speed and power released by this system - now working in harmony from the engine right thru to the tailpipes - it transforms an already quick, and upgraded, 4.7 to another level.
There's now a wall of torque by 5000 rpm (and the feeling that this builds far quicker from lower in the range)and I'm still frequently hitting the limiter as I get used to the unabated power thereafter!
It just seems to "breathe" so much better than before.
I had a test drive in the recent V8S not so long back.
The SLINC mobile would now eat it for breakfast...
I've yet to have it dyno tested back at TDI but Pommehogster quotes north of 460bhp / 480nm torque for "Jessica" so I'm hopeful that I'll get reasonably close to that - it certainly feels like I will.
I'll post up the results as and when but it'll be interesting to see how it compares to the previous run I had there with the Milltek in situ.
Whilst I realise there's plenty of opinion amongst PHers that money spent upgrading a 4.7 would be better spent getting on to the V12V level the Bamford Rose package takes a standard car pretty much halfway there (in performace terms at least)for a fraction of what the trade in gap would be.
I reckon it's brilliant value for money, for both the exceptionally high standard of components used and the sense of "seamless" integration that only well designed kit engenders.
It has the SLINC gold seal of approval (for what it's worth!?) and I heartily recommend it to anyone interested in finding out what huge potential their standard V8V has!!
Best,
SLINC

Thanks for the write up Slinc - any chance of a drive by* video clip to capture the noise your car makes now?
If I knew how to post up a video I might!- no not THAT () type of drive by.
A good place to get a great idea is YouTube.
Type in Bamford Rose and you'll find some excellent clips of Pommehogster's "Jessica".

yes - please do buy a V12 and get Mike to go at it.
December 2013 mine is out of warranty and unless my circumstances change I will be asking Mike to monster it. So I'd rather be 2nd instead of 1st!
