I am verging on buying one,but genuinely not sure which one to buy.It is a weekend car,but I do plan a long road trip through Europe next year with the wife so luggage space is a consideration.
The DBS rides better but the v is a sharper driving tool,both are equally stunning to look at,I really am undecided.
Financially the vantage would be better,cheaper to buy,much rarer and to my mind a future classic,therefore I am guessing it would depreciate less ?
Any useful advice appreciated,apart from buy one of each

I looked at both before I settled on a V12V.
I like the smaller overall size of the V12V - easier to park (ahem) and smaller footprint. Essentially I like big engine + small car.
There is a thread on here I started called DBS vs V12V - or something similar.
All the good stuff is the same - brakes, gearbox, engine, stereo, dashboard, V12 banshee wail. There is not much difference in luggage room once you factor in the hatchback in the V12V.
I strongly recommend trying a few and seeing what floats your boat. Also - try then in different colours. It makes a huge difference if you can bring yourself to come away from the black and numerous shares of silver & grey. My V12V is Mako blue which I think is beautiful.

On test drives I think the V12V will win you over more quickly, the DBS may take longer to get under your skin.
Bear in mind the handling and feel of a DBS can be tweaked to be sharper but it's a longer, heavier car built for the ultimate GT run, not trackdays
Personally, in my own Aston, I'd want manual and a Volante which means new DBS only unless you're very lucky! Are we talking new here, if so the savings on the Vantage are considerable.
I'd go DBS personally as it suits my style and needs from driving more. Neither are going to suffer from oversupply or being seen everywhere and the 1000 or so V12Vs doesn't make them *that* rare like a DB4GT or a Zagato car.
Drive both for as long a test drive as you can, or see if any dealers are doing days away in them.

I have driven them both,the vantage is more fun on a quick blast,the DBS better on along run,I do prefer the compactness of the vantage .
As I said to the salesperson....I wouldn't be crying myself to sleep at night if I bought either,but Im genuinely not sure which one to go for,and no I'm not buying new,that is foolish.

I wrestled with the same dilemma as I absolutely love both cars. I find the DBS to be even more handsome whereas I think the V12 Vantage has better resolved suspension. For me DBS was too soft on 'soft' and too niggly on 'sport'. V12 Vantage is a better compromise and for a heavy car feels remarkably tidy on the track. It also has stickier tyres which offer stupendous grip when it's warm and dry, less so when it isn't. Of course something similar could be fitted to the DBS. I'd have to drive both again but I think the V12V might have the edge on the steering and chassis response. It's a bit more agile.
I think I slightly prefer the sound of the V12 Vantage as standard, it's a little bit more aggressive using shorter pipes. They are both superb GT cars though, driving the V12V on a long trip has never been a chore and I've seen some very big speeds with ease and great stability. V12V is a bit cooler, more aggressive and stealthy because to the untrained eye it's just another Vantage, so it's not as good for showing off. DBS is a bit more 'prestigious' and probably cuts a bit more mustard at snooty events. Very little in it in terms of luggage space, both have ample for a weekend away.
If you like autos then it has to be the DBS.

Well, you and me. There is the one the Stig drove on Top Gear that Lancaster Cambridge sold in March/April this year. I have not seen any others in the UK. I did see one on an Australian youtube clip, one on a German youtube clip and one in a Netherlands youtube clip.1) Cost - is the difference significant enough?

I like the profile of the DBS over the V12V (or the DB9 over the V8). To me, the Vantage is a little too short for its width - a little 'stubby' looking. But of course it is all personal preference. Also, DBS's don't all have back seats, so that may or may not be a consideration.Regarding colour, I spent more than a year looking for a car (used) that wasn't grey, silver or black before I finally found one and jumped on it.

Was told by Grange Aston last week that they sold a Mako car in April this year. They also said that all the Mako cars had the light weight seats is this right John, Mako.?

Not true that all Mako cars have lightweight seats - in the Australian youtube clip the car appears to have regular seats.
Mine has lightweight seats and B&O - all the important options!
