I am tempted by a track day but it states 98 Db. Is this too low for a Vantage?
Depends on what exhaust system you have on the car... I have never been on a track day but from what I can gather, standard exhaust will be fine.
Some aftermarket systems exceed the limit....

Someone who knows will be along soon I am sure...... with all the exact data, do's & donts etc.....

You should be fine as they normally do a static 2k rpm test which it will pass.

Where do they do such a low db test???

The standard static is 75% of max rpm measured at 1 metre from the rear of the car. The 4.3 Vantage redlines at what, 7000rpm, or thereabouts? 2000rpm, no way chap.

I know that rules are rules blah blah blah.... But why on earth are there noise limits on a race track?? My years as a biker and modified sports bikes always leads me to the sticker on the exhaust.. NOT FOR ROAD USE!!! Some of the systems available for bikes were really loud...

If you cant have that race car sound on a track or the road... Where the bloody hell can you use them....???

Here??? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3358579.htm

I would double check just in case theres a rare sharp-ribbed newt hiding under a tumble weed or a southwestern willow flycatcher that might not like the noise... LOL

It boils my p1ss, too, but there are few TD's you can attend where the noise limit isn't an isssue. Donnington, for example as 767's, etc flying over it, yet it still has db limits. 105db, mind you (often) - a much more realistic level than 89db (sometimes at Bedford iirc) or the common 98db.

BTW - you can have a loud car on the road -- It's not an official MOT issue (down to the individual tester and whether or not he's a petrolhead or not!)

Cheers,

C.

Goodwood has 98 and 105 days, to appease the local miseries (let's buy a house next to a race track and then complain about the noise). This does surprise me though as there is also an airfield in the middle of the track.

Last time I was there on a 105dBA track day there were helicopter lessons going on and a Tiger Moth doing circuits. It was difficult to hear the calls to the pit lane at times. Also rather surreal barrelling into St. Mary's just as a vintage aircraft comes bumbling across the track at 30 feet.

The Goodwood noise test is done at 3/4 max rpm at 0.5m. My car measures 100dBA.
