Mouse stuck in your clutch?!
Discussion
Good news from my latest trip to the AM dealer. I took my V12Vantage in for a few warranty niggles and thought i'd mention the clutch squeak that I get when launching from standstill with any degree of enthusiasm.
Those at the Works Service V12V day will probably recall someone asking this question during the presentation and being told it was a deisgn fault on the early cars (clutch housing vibration?) which is now resolved on the newer ones.
I expected the same answer from the dealer but thought I'd bring it up anyway - hey presto they agreed it was a fault and are putting a new clutch in under warranty - result!
Only wish I'd waited until the end of the warranty now. Still, its put the probably huge investment off by about 14 months I guess (this one's a keeper!). I don't know if my case was particularly bad but if really pushed it used to sound like my first car - a 20 yr old escort 1.1 with a dodgy thrust bearing.
Has anyone else had theirs replaced?

Don't know about a mouse stuck in the clutch but I believe there is photographic evidence of one in the engine block?!
I've never pulled away fast! How many rpm do you mean?
Er, me neither. Of course - that would be...umm reckless. About 3-4k Rpms - I'm not talking traction control light coming on - just a quickish take off. I've never pulled away fast! How many rpm do you mean?
I'm not sure where I find the chassis sequence number I'm embarrassed to say - where is it?!
The chassis number on a V12V is the last three numbers of the VIN. So that's on the plate mounted under the windscreen on the passenger side at the bottom. And it's visible in the stereo - one of the options is information and it shows the VIN.

Matt: Can you describe this phenomenon further? The clutch just squeaked, or did it slip/shudder too? This is just a matter of an undesired noise, or is it a mechanical problem that must be addressed? Also, were you dropping the clutch quickly when you noticed this or slowing releasing it? Very curious as to this issue. My VIN is in the 500s.

it was just an annoying noise - absolutely no slippage at all. Works service said it was the clutch housing vibrating and that later models had a different clutch. It wouldnt take much to cause it each time and worse with the sport button pressed I guess due to additional torque. Thinking about it - the problem would probably have saved my clutch in the long run as I'd got into the habit of never applying power until the clutch was fully engaged. Only really gave it the beans from scratch when a 911 needed teaching a lesson
I'm talking in past tense - the car is actually still having the work done so I'll see what it is like hopefully this weekend.

I'm seriously considering a early 2009 V12V... Is this something I should be concerned about??
Has anybody actually had a failure associated with this issue?
Richard.
Richard, it is a warranty claim and it is only vibration of the clutch housing due to a design 'feature' Has anybody actually had a failure associated with this issue?
Richard.
There is no issue or failure of the component, just an annoying chirp that I don't think should be apparent on a £100K + car. Personally I wish I had waited longer and got it replaced nearer the end of the warranty, but I would definately get it replaced as I find it annoying.

I do have this noise as well on my MY09. When I complained, the dealer told me "they all do it" and no replacement under warranty has been offered.
And that is what the dealer told me until I pointed them at this thread . On the test drive, oh yes sir they all do that!!! But as pointed out here it is a warranty claim as they changed the item to a later cover that does not vibrate and cause the noise.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
