Protection again Stone Chips?

I had the film fitted by Broughtons on our Vantage. It worked brilliantly, you could just make out where stones had hit but with no paintwork damage. Having said that whilst travelling to Le Mans at some speed we acquired a big chip. As it struck the bonnet it sort of unzipped the film as well. I was quoted £1000 and odd for a bonnet and tops of wings respray.
Considering the film cost over that amount to fit I decided not to have it applied to our new S. I am thinking that I will wait till it is peppered then have it painted if need be.

I had paint protection film applied to my V8V by PaintShield in Peterbrough. Full front - bumpers, bonnet, front wings, mirror backs, sills and rear wheel arch (bigger section than that put on by AM). Like others have said you can see it if you look really hard but it is hardly noticeable. They provide a 4 year warranty on their installation. You will hear those who say that it detracts from the finished look of a detailed car and you can always just respray the front end when needed. For me, I prefer not to see peppered paintwork. I would prefer to perhaps lose a little from the finished appearance but maintain pristine paintwork than have a highly glossed car with chips all over it. Who's to say you'll not get a couple of highly noticeable chips the day it comes out of the paintshop after a respray. I'd be gutted after paying for a new paintjob for that to happen. The PPF gives me peace of mind and I enjoy my driving more being a bit less worried about what might hit my car. I can't fault it over the last 6 months since it was put on and consider it money well spent. Go for it. You can Google PaintShield. Tom may give you a PH discount

Has anyone one put clear film on either the N420 sills or V12 sills? The standard sill looks like they would be easy to wrap, but the other ones more challenging. I have my fenders/wings, hood/bonnet, and mirrors covered but did not do the sills. I kept the stock covering on rear fenders and the one part of the sill. Now that I am putting N420 sills, and once painted will need film added as a minimum on the rear portion as per the factory I am wondering if the entire sill should be covered?

I've had the entire sill on my V8VS (which has V12 sills) and can't tell it has been done. I did this because the V8 stoneguards don't fit without some modification. The company I used did a great job, in fact the detailer that worked on the car after commented on the quality and said he was likely to recommend them to the Mclaren garage in London which they do the detailing for.We've done the more tricky sills on V12's etc, harder to do than the flatter sills but still doable. Down south I would recommend Mint Condition for your ppf work, east us, and further afield Paintshield.
Mint uses Ventureshield, we used to use that but now switching to a slightly thicker German brand, Paintshield use Xpel I think but no idea where that comes from, we only use EU origin materials and VS was the last non EU product to get shot of, certainly no chinese muck here either which a lot of people use.

They did the install on the car. As your sills will be off for painting anyway I would ask whomever you select to do the job what is their preference. I would also suggest you let the paint cure for a week before it is applied to make sure it is properly hardened. On my new car, it was 2 at least two weeks between the paintshop in the factory and the film being applied at the dealer.I inherited venture shield on my last V8V and I put it on the current V8VS.

After 10K miles of A&B roads with out a stone chip I was a convert.
I spent £800 have the 3M Ventureshield put on the New V8VS as soon as I got it home, a few things I'd point out:
1) It seals in the "condition" of the paint, so get any paint chips, blemishes and swirl marks sorted first, I got mine machine polished and detailed first.
2) Get the FULL kit as it protects alot more (full bonnet, front bumper, front lip, headlights front of each wing, mirrors, door handles, extended rear quarters, lower edge of rear bumper, boot to bumper area.)
3) Make sure who ever fits it uses precut templates DO NOT allow them to cut it on the car with a scapel!
4) Any new paint needs 4 weeks for water based paint to set and degas properly you then need to do point 1
5) When polishing the car afterwards tape up the edges of the film or you will force wax in the the edge and high light the line
6) once it's on leave it in a warm garage over night to set in position properly (less of an issue in the summer)

I have extensively researched this procedure and have never been happy with the look of wraps especially on Black and White cars . I have preferred to respray cars every couple of years rather than have a job I am not 100 per cent happy with .
Nick did the whole of my 4.0 GT3 RS , the whole car and it is absolutely stunning . You can barely notice it , its unbelievable . He uses a high grade venture shield and its basically invisible even on flat black .
Even Rob at Supercar detailing my detailing God was blown away , he couldnt believe it . The Carrera GT is going there for a complete wrap as soon as I get the front wrapped as will every other car I own once they are prepared , I promise you theres none better out there than Nick .
If you are near Surrey , come and look at the 4.0 you will be agog !

Another vote for Nick (07836 285538). He has put on protective film on two of my cars and the results are superb. Attention to detail and quality of the product he uses is without question.
One of my cars sees plenty of track duty and the film is still standing up to the abuses of track driving after 2 years.
