V8V clutch destroyed
Discussion
Something terrible happened last night. I was in front of a traffic lights when I saw an ambulance behind me, I went to move out the way...and nothing. I put it in first, accelerated...nothing. The rev counter was screaming at me as though I was in neutral, eventually when it hit 7k revs it started to edge forwards.
This continued to deteriorate along my journey until even at 7k revs the car would not even move. With my limited engine knowledge, I can only presume the clutch went and call Aston Martin Emergency Assist.
I've only had the car for 3 weeks, and the thought of a £3k bill for a clutch replacement made me a little wary. I know this is one of the engine components which is not covered under warranty, but given the facts:
1.) it went within the first month of purchasing
2.) I've only done 600 miles
3.) I bought it from a main dealer (Grange)
Am I correct in presuming that they should pick up the bill?
One small gripe with the assist service is that they've given me a mere Mercedes C class as a weekend replacement, shouldn't they be striving to replace like for like?

Seems strange for a clutch to go so suddenly. Normally you do experience some slippage which from experience gradually gets worse. Usually accompanied by a fairly strong smell.
I am sure Grange will be very helpfull.
Wish you the best of luck, maybe a good time to open a bottle or two of wine!

You poor sod.... I can relate to this as the same thing happened to me within the 1st week of owning mine, then had weeks & weeks of grief...
Mine was purchased from an indipendent garage and they ended up paying the all costs to replace the clutch. was a very long winded and drawn out struggle but got there in the end....
I cannot imagine you will have much trouble from a main dealer, sales of goods act!!!!
Good luck in getting it sorted out.....

I believe that there is a general rule that if a part fails within the first 3 months of ownership then it is deemed to be faulty at the time of supply.

If all else fails, the factory may well get involved. There is a very efficient and helpful chap called Phil Hickerton in customer services.
I hope the grin from driving soon returns :-)

Also the basic principle of the Sales Of Goods Act 1979. The Sale Of Goods Act with reference to the motor trade states that used cars may have faults, but they should not be excessive.http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/c_secondhand_cars.pd...

Add this to the fact that a dodgy clutch should have been picked up on prior to the sale, if anything like me my Vantage was the 1st Aston I had driven so had no idea what the clutch should or shouldnt feel like..
Personaly I dont think he will have anything to worry about...
My advice would be to have a on it, up on the sales of goods act then them and your point across...
I do like the smiles selection on here....

To add a bit of clarity, the car has only done 16k miles to date in all.
I would be amazed if the clutch is not replaced by the dealer who sold you the car......I don't think you have a problem apart from some inconvenience Hello all - good news!
Grange valiantly picked up the bill to replace the fly wheel, the clutch friction plate (which I presume is the pressure plate) and the clutch slave cylinder.
The clutch wear and tear is not covered in the warranty, but as it was clearly the previous owner who did the wearing and tearing I was fortunate enough not to be financially stinted.
It goes to show it is worth the peace of mind of paying that little bit extra £1-2k going to a main dealer where branding reputation and repeat business clearly means a lot, rather than some independent cowboy who'd be more interested in taking your money and running.
On a separate note, after much tinkering / resetting / re-calibratring of the TPM, the guys at Grange still haven't solved the conundrum of my faulty tyre sensors - has anybody else had an ongoing issue with this, is it simply the cold weather setting them off?
