hi
i want to put the current console AMV8 in 2006 AMV8 is it possible? .....
any of you have or have had any intention of doing
no point of comparison between the two consoles, that of 2006 AMV8, is more austere, the current, is very beautiful.

I have a vantage of 2006 and want to put the dashboard radio, heater current, which is known as the 2011 HVAC unit.

is it possible to update

thanks for your answers

Interesting, I've always preferred the original console design. The buttons and knobs on the new one look too plasticky to me.

Agreed. The original one is an absolute design clasic, hasn't aged a day and never will.

Topny, thought you'd asked about a dash change and been told 'no'?

Interestingly AM thought so to. wink
The ones in MY12 Vantage S are actually metal, not plastic like my old MY09 car
OP whilst they look like a direct swap I suspect the issue will be connectors and software

You could always brighten up the original console by adding Tony Halls stainless steel knobs.

Isn't the air vent direction control mechanical in the old dash and electronic in the new ? If so, that would be a no to changing unless you changed the entire ventilation system as well.

See "Tony Hall Knobs !!!" thread posted today if you would like a cheap set and make a charitable donation at the same time. Normally £200 set. New and unused starting bid £50 (cheque to FareShare charity).

Afraid to say they have changed the plugs behind the centre console. I would not entertain the idea of doing it. ICM (Infotainment control module) changed, different fibre optic architecture, etc etc.

That was almost a dead cert, the software alone would make it very difficult

Manuel, My apologies for not getting in touch earlier. I have changed jobs recently and have gone off to work for a company specialising in people (lone person working) tracking and vehicle tracking. However part of the deal to take me on was to be able to take all of the Aston Martin specialist installation work with me.

Therefore I am still involved with AML and dealers and clients but just under a different name. Trackaphone Ltd

I will send a PM to you later.

In regards to the centre console swap, if it were remotely possible, then I would look into it. The next task is to try and retro fit the new Garmin Nav to older cars. Factory says not possible, however, It may well be partially possible. It depends on how many other on board systems have been tied into it or wether it is a stand alone system. I have a new Rapide in pieces next week, so will try and ascertain.

Your problem would be that the software required to integrate this console on an older car does not exist hence you would have functionality issues.

I don't really understand this.

There look to be the same number of buttons (just in different places), the same dimension screen, the same slots and holes for things like CD player, hazard buttons etc. And the slots look like they're in more or less the same position.

The panel itself is the same dimension.

Software aside, the buttons must end in wires. I can't imagine Aston would have fitted optical switches. In fact I can't believe they'd have fundamentally changed all the electronics behind the panel when changing the fascia (fascia change is a cheap "upgrade"....especially when you consider how the buttons and font actually look!).

I can fully imagine that disconnecting all the current switches, and attaching the wires to new connectors etc would be an absolute nightmare. But equally can't imagine software would come into it if you kept the guts behind the panel itself exactly the same...?

Still, stranger things have happened and the way the electronics in the V8 were concocted makes no sense on many levels!
