Perfect timing with the thread! My rears are going to need changing in the not too distant future and that's cheaper than I had previously found.

Camskill get my vote - used them for over 10 years, usually the best price on the Market too.

I just ordered a set of rear tires today from TireRack here in the USA and I'm having them delivered to the dealer so they can mount them on my car Friday.

I decided to go with the Continental ExtremeContact DW instead of the standard Bridgestone. The OEM tire is way too noisy and harsh for me and the Conti is one of the highest rated tires at the moment. It got some of the highest scores for:

- Hydroplaning resistance
- Wet Traction
- Cornering Stability
- Dry Traction
- Ride Comfort
- Noise Comfort

The only tire that was rated higher was the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport, but it's currently not available in sizes for the Vantage.

I will just get them on the Company Account from the Company Provider. I won't find them cheaper elsewhere, otherwise he will at least match the price.

Are there still problems in the supply chain from Japan ?? smile

Hi Paul

Try Event Tyres they are normally pretty competitive and do good work.
They come to you so you can make sure the monkey does it properly with out and messing or damage. BTW make sure they are AM9 RE050's.

Anyone good (and reasonably cheap!) in the west London or Berkshire area?
Being quoted £270 at the moment by a dealer per rear tyre.

Try Stratstone in Amersham (Main dealer). When I had my car serviced there a few months ago, they had a big advert saying that they are very competitive on tyres and it would be very interesting to hear how they compare. In the past the cheapest I found for performance tyres was Bracknell Tyres.

Forgot to mention, the Contis are $243US front and $285US rear each. I'm having the dealer install them because I don't trust another shop not to mess up the TPMS sensors.

Karl, I am also interested in the Contis. Please post your impression after having some time with them on the car.

Good fitters too! smile I've used them for years now, wouldn't go anywhere else. They were bought out by Micheldever Tyres a little while back, but that only meant a refitted customer service area with a drinks machine and comfy indoor seating!

The 911 turbo I was driving had Michelin pilot cup sport (or something similar). Once hot they were very very sticky. Similar to the p-zero corsa tyres on the V12V.

Feedback once you have it please!

Some things I should point out:

  • The Continental ExtremeContact DW is considered a Summer tire which is fine for me here in the Sunshine State, USA. They also offer a Continental ExtremeContact DWS which is an All-Season tire and highly rated as well.
  • TireRack's ranking of tires in the Max Performance category puts the Michelin Pilot Super Sport at #1; the Continental ExtremeContact DW at #2; and the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050A at #19 out of 26 tires tested.
  • In the subjective category "Would you buy these again?" of TireRack's owner survey, the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050A had some of the lowest possible scores.
  • Right now I'm only changing the rears because the Bridgestone fronts have plenty of tread left. That will mean I have a mismatched set. I'm not an F1 driver or do track days, so it's not a big deal.
  • The number one owner complaint for the Contis is that they don't have as much steering feel as the Michelins. I don't carve-up mountain roads (non-existant in Florida) or do autocross, so I don't care.
  • You need to figure out what qualities you look for in a tire. For me, I was interested in something that had less tire roar and was more compliant over bumps. My OEM rears are very noisy, but I'm not sure if the fact that they are at the wear-bars makes that more noticeable. Maybe a new set of OEMs would be quieter, but still probably not as quiet as the Contis.
  • TireRack has one more category beyond the Max Performance which they call Extreme Performance. The new Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 is in this category and is rated #1 out of the 7 in that category. However, they rated lower than the Contis in Wet Traction, Hydroplaning Resistance, Ride Comfort, Noise Comfort, and Treadwear which are all important to me. They are also out of stock in Vantage sizes until mid-December.
  • My dealer only sells the OEM tire, but has no problem installing whatever tires I provide. They are being delivered this morning and will probably be installed on my car tomorrow, Friday. Then I will see if my experience with them matches the reviews.
Some tire results can be seen here:

I paid £975 for a set of AM9 tyres when I first got my Vantage. They are for sale in the classifieds for £800, they have done less than 10 miles.
