I know this is obvious to some of you, but not to others of us!

So my question is, 2009 4.7 V8V Roadster:

What oil?
How much of it?
Best place to buy?

Before I call dealers to ask for my 2nd service price, due in a few weeks.

Thanks everyone!

P.S. I did try to search but found an awful lot of information that confused me and didn't want to risk getting it wrong.

Official choice is either Castrol Edge Sport 10w-60 or Castrol Formula RS 10w-60, 4.7 takes 10 litres (including oil filter).

Michael is the master of finding cheap oil, he uses Costco I believe.... if they stock the Castrol!

Nope.

Only ever seen 2 oils in Costco.

Mobil 1 or Baby Oil.

Castrol Edge Sport 10 - 60. My local Costco does not stock it and I ended up here:
http://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/
Works out much cheaper if you bulk buy so I bought enough for 2 services and a little bit more in case it needed a top up in between.
Just follow the links to the right oil and off you go!

Thanks very much everyone, looks like:

Castrol Edge Sport 10W-60 Engine Oil 2053-7065 4Litre £35.99
and
Castrol Edge Sport 10w-60 Engine Oil 2053-7065-6 6Litre 57.56

£96.01 after shipping and a 5% autumn discount, how much would a dealership have charged for that?

(I haven't actually hit buy yet but will call around dealerships in the morning to get a service booked in).

Thanks again!

I used Castrol Edge Sport 10w-60 bought from Nielsens at £107 for 12 litres and Stratstones at Amersham used this oil for the service of my 2009 V8V just last week.

Oil accounts for around £240 of your service costs; enough saved for a good night out smile

Will Nicole Sherzinger be involved with the second one?

I recall a previous thread suggesting Castrol Edge (without the sport) was better. Designed for BMW M engines and has some extra additives. Castrol web site and I think Opie oils suggests you can use this. My car is due it's first service in a couple of weeks and was planning to use it. Any reason why I should use Edge Sport instead (other than price)? I always want what's best for my P&J smile

I'm not getting very far with this!

Dealerships don't seem to like you bringing your own oil, at least they are honest and say that they need to be selling it though. I've got 2 quotes well above what I'd like to be paying and I'm not sure how to work it down any more, more calls to more dealerships I guess.

A bit of calling around and it's booked in. Not delighted with the price but we're £350 lower than they started off at, including dealership providing oil.

Now just fingers crossed I don't have to spend an epic fortune on consumables.

How many miles do pads and discs last normally? In previous cars I've not been too bad to them.

Only 12 hours until I get my car back, it's been a long 60 hours so far and I'm actually rather excited about it!

30k miles is a general rule for a heavy GT car. What's yours on?

Car is currently on 13k, but I found another thread in search that said rear pads go before 20k and fronts towards 30k. The service centre told me that my rears are nearing 60% used which I believe means I can get about another 5k miles out of them before I'll need new ones.
