Aaaaagh!!! Managed to drop my ECU this afternoon and got a tiny chip in the glass. Hardly noticeable to anyone but me. I was gutted though cry How many of you use the second plastic key regularly? I really dislike it as the glass one is so much nicer and brings a grin to my face just looking at it. Much prefer using it to the plastic one but at what risk? I understand it's expensive to replace frown

I dropped mine too and got the same chip. I think the plastic version is for valet and other intermittent use, not daily use. Someone else posted recently about a plastic key that was falling apart after daily use.

I've used my plastic key since the car was new in November 2009. Just as well as I've dropped it on several occasions too!
It works now as good as day 1.

I use the glass one -- it looks and feels great, whereas the plastic one looks and feels really cheap. So far, so good...

I dont think I have ever used the glass key on either of my cars. I am far too clumsy. I have dropped the plastic one but touch wood no problems.

I managed to keep my ECU intact on the last car
IIRC there is a little leather "wallet" for them?

They really ought to supply two. I took the plastic one this morning and it looked wrong sitting in its slot.

I believe that is an option now.

I never use the plastic one, looks crap. The glass one just lives in it's little leather pocket thing when not in the car. They could have atleast made the plastic one better looking.

Yup, got my little leather pouch for mine.

They only had 'DBS' ones available, which makes me smile when I see it.

I only ever use the glass one, except for servicing etc, otherwise no real point having it smile

Mine says "DBS" too. Apparently they never made any saying "V12 Vantage".

I agree. I suppose you could just keep the glass one in a drawer, but why even have it then?

Mine does not have any text or logo, just a little black leather sheath

Same here, would be nice to have it say DB9 though.

I suspect you might struggle to fit V12 Vantage on it hehe

They stopped providing the wallets with the keys when I got my car. Think you can buy them but cost about £100 for a little pouch, which I think is a laugh. Must be possible to find a suitable alternative albeit without the logo. Have to say the pouch wouldn't have helped as I dropped it when using it to open the car. Just can't bring myself to use the plastic one as it doesn't look or feel right for such a superb car

The plastic one doesn't even have a logo. It really is poor.

When I got my V8V I decided it was crazy not to use the gorgeous crystal key and that I would be careful with it... After about 9mths I finally dropped it from sufficient height onto a hard surface and chipped the corner off the crystal. From that moment on I put it away and drove with a plastic key frown

Then I got the V12V and I decided it was crazy not to use the gorgeous crystal key and that I would be even more careful with it second time around. After about 9mths I finally dropped it again and cracked the crystal quite badly. Since then I have been driving with the plastic key frownfrownfrown

They really ought to have a little leather strap that goes over the top of the wallet. On both occasions when I dropped it I did so because I tipped it up slightly whilst in my hand and it slid out of the wallet. I actually think the wallet is more likely to make you drop it than just putting the glass key in your pocket. Bad design frown

Its all in the mind, you get given this trinket and get overcome with 'Smeagol preciousssssss'
tendancies.

Drop it and you feel like a tiny part of your world has ended.

Spot on!

Mine was actually broken when I collected the car but I did not notice until I got home. Too late!
