Rear brake light not working on my db9. Didn't blink until the dealer told me it's a sealed unit. Just had £496.99 charged to my card for a replacement!!

Couple of thoughts:

1. Is it bad design? (remember the old days when a bulb went and you bought one for a few pence...)
2. They've given me the old unit - can I get it reconditioned and working again to stick on eBay ?

Ouch! And is just me??!?

Correction. Labour was £41, the parts (unit plus seal) £455 but the vat was also £99 so the total bill was £596.39

In fairness to dealer they had the unit in stock and fitted it there and then. But.

When you say rear brake light, do you mean the light in the middle, or one of the actual light clusters?

The light cluster. Not the high level brake light

Sounds about right.

I had the pair fitted for £907 last year as part of a 'special deal' when purchasing my DB9 smile

So can't they be reconditioned? There's the cost angle but it also seems such a waste!

No, not you. Rubbish design that lets water in! That a company of Aston's standing doesn't undersatand something as basic as water and elecrics don;t mix is shocking. IIIRC there was a company that could repair tthem, will try to find the link.

Outrageous...... I can't believe these units can't be fixed..... A 12v light emitting diode cost 10p FFS....
You are of course correct Mr Q.

AKAIK they are sealed units. Some would say they are over-spec'd.

The fact that you cannot perform a simple bulb change on them may actually imply that they are under spec'd ironically smile

You are not wrong, remember it myself, but tried a search and can't find it.

I always thought they were different, but I may well be wrong smile

There's an easy way to check though, what's part number on yours? The red ones that came off my car have this on it:
