Itching to join the Aston Martin marque after finally defecting from the M3 world.

I have got my beady eyes on a beautiful Onyx V8V roadster, but have only one concern about ownership, and that is parking the car overnight on my drive on a reasonably busy road.
Am sure many of you are able to hideaway your pride and joy at night in the garage, but as my garage was converted into playroom recently i can't do this.
Am i going to worry every night that the Aston is going to attract the wrong sort of people to it and put my family at risk - or am i just being ridiculously paranoid and should say nuts to it ?

Many thanks

I guess only you really know your own neighbourhood though mate.

I'd do it happily in my area, and often do leave my cars on the drive overnight anyway, being that my garage is currently full of bikes.

yikes
Must be bloody expensive bikes to leave the Aston out of the garage!

Depends on where you live / type of street etc. I do leave mine on the drive, but its a fairly big in / out driveway, so car is not right by the road, Also, have found Astons tend to be admired not envied by joe public. So genrerally should be OK. But it only takes one tosser.
And hopefully, welcome to the Aston fold. If you buy it the rules are you have to post up pictures. Hopefully without a private plate wink

I think you will be ok...

I live in a road that is often used as a cut through for yobs, youths and hooded night creatures... (CHAVS).. I have caught kids on the drive a couple of times and gone out there to find that they are mearly admiring the car..

Astons seem to attract a fair bit of attention, but respectable attention, even from people who you would think would cause harm to the car...

In London, there are a couple of Astons, Lambos, Ferraris parked road side... They never seem to get bothered!!

Dont let what could happen spoil your chance of owning an AM!!!

Not a bad world to be coming from Rick - M3 says a bit about you.

I'm afraid you will have to go through this pain barrier as many of us have done so ourselves. My DB9 remains on the driveway now in front of me.

Unlike other high end cars, the Aston always seems to attract the right kind of tits.

Don't live you life in fear matey smile

As they all said. Mine is on the drive and at no extra cost to the insurance too!. Usual precautions though - can you gate the drive? Can you put up one of those security lights that sound an alarm in your bedroom when they are activated? No matter what you do there will always be times when you have to leave them but my vantage has only ever attracted positive comments rather than spiteful envious ones.

I'd say go for it, be vigilant but not neurotic, and enjoy.

My car has lived on the driveway all it's life. But I do live in the middle of the country, and you can't see it from the road. You could invest in a car cover for it though, might offer some protection.

I agree with some other comments. You tend to get positive attention in an Aston Martin rather than the "coffee bean wave" you get in a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini.

I have certainly seen kids staring at my car when parked in public but it has always been of the "nice car mister" variety. As long as you make a point of being friendly then you will be fine - if it's not late at night and I am driving off I will give it a little throttle blip and a wave.

You will also get let out in traffic in an Aston Martin.

Don't stress. Get it bought, get fuse 22 out and get some miles on the road. And feel the love smile

Good point Georgeous, and one we had forgotten.

The car cover will offer a lot of protection as the winter months approach. You can go from £100 to £300 on these though most of us bought somewhere in the middle smile

I lived on a busy road for a couple of year, with no issue

I did have a specialised car cover for longer periods, which works great, especially in winter

dont worry, just enjoy the car

I'd be more worried about leaving an M3 on the drive than an Aston! The Aston's less likely to attract the "wrong sorts".

I moved back to London from Germany in 2002. I had a succession of M3s a CSL and an M5 parked outside without mishap (other than an M3 getting stolen). My DB9 was keyed a couple of months after I bought it. It has since lived in the garage that the keying prompted me to clear out.

I have had no problem leaving my car on the front drive, i am 100 yarda away from a primary school, i get plenty of comments from young mums when off loading their children for the day.
On another note i got home the other morning at 4.15am and had passed 3 youths still with their drinking bottles about 1/4 mile from my house. I parked up and waited by my front door ( outside of view just in case anything untoward happened) As it happens there was the comment " look, it's an Aston Martin, top car " before they carried on. I Don't think you have anything to worry about at all

You only need one scrote sadly frown

I had my DB7 round the back of my house in Clifton (the nice bit of Bristol), we'd usually hear merriment and see camera flashes and look out to see people posing by it and admiring it (I also has my Maserati parked next to it).

One morning went out to find the Aston keyed and the tyres on it and the Maserati stabbed. So... moral is, you can never tell!

However, it wouldn't stop me buying one, though I hadn't considered the risk of being burgled for the keys. How strong is your front door and how dodgy is your area? I would have though Audi RS and M-Cars were more of a risk though.

Car cover will help hugely, doesn't draw the eye if it doesn't have ASTON MARTIN written on it smile.

Yer agree its all about the area, and I do feel that burglary is more likely if you have a flash car on your drive. Personally garages are for cars and not playrooms, big mistake there mate. As for damage tho you are probably as likely to scrape the garage against the wall of the garage than it is to get keyed (unless you have a nice big double garage with double door). Mine is always in my garage, but that is huge, insulated and heated, cos she is worth it. But my mates have lots of nice toys too and are often parked outside the garage, so much so and some of my neighbors think I am exotic car dealer and this has not attracted burglers (fingers crossed).

Seeing as this was my first post, i am very grateful for your swift replies with your suggestions and input,it is much appreciated.

I do live in a nice area thankfully, (small village near Epsom,Surrey),which has a relatively low crime rate, but i would be parking the car right outside the house with no bushes to hide it behind and i believe i would possibly be attracting the wrong type of attention.

You are correct in saying that i should have kept the garage, bad mistake, but i was never in the position to be able to buy anything like an Aston Martin then.

The sad news is that i bottled it today and pulled out of the deal to buy the Vantage Roadster, my family come first, and i would never forgive myself if some idiot decided to break into my house to nick the car keys, possibly while we are all asleep.

Really pi55ed off, might have to move just to get a garage !!!! Seems a bit extreme, but i will own an Aston Martin at some stage. The M3 has gone now, so something has to replace it ??

Thanks again for all your advise........... 'I'll be back'.......

Just as another tack on this. One of the guys that works for me had his house broken into earlier this year while he and his family were asleep. They got his car keys and took his, wait for it. ... Vauxhall Zafira. If you don't believe me I'll get him to pm you!

There is absolutely no assurance that whatever you buy instead of an Aston will reduce the chance of this happening. In fact to embellish on that I bet there is a better chance of ringing a Zafira than a Vantage. I'd have thought that the market for a stolen Aston is going to be pretty limited, the opportunity to ring it pretty minimal and the buyer likely to be more informed.
A Zafira, JCW, Fiat Abarth etc is available in much greater numbers, I would suspect bought by people who would not be as savvy to check the true identity of it etc. Potentially a greater risk there IMHO

Our vantage has been outside various houses, areas and never had any unwarranted attention. I used to worry. I don't any longer.

Get back into the Aston dealer and get the damn thing bought!
