My new GranTurismos. Should have saved a good chunk of weight due to ally bells and lighter monobloc calipers. 380mm and 6-pistons. Collect the car tomorrow, Kay at DMS just called to tell me Rick was out bedding them in for me smile

Had the DBS steering rack fitted at the same time, a geo re-set (now H&R springs have settled) should feel better than ever! Did I mention I'm off to the Swiss Alps on Thursday, returning through the Black Forest? Just though I'd mention it again...

Indeed smile Doubt that's the final colour unless I love it in the metal as it were, I would imagine that even I will want them toned down a little bit from RED! Maybe black and red or black and yellow..? Might doa poll nearer the time.

Thanks for the wishes, I will raise a glass of Beaune's finest Claret in your stead! (Although white Burgundys are very much my thing and a case or 2 of Puligny or Chassigny Montrachet might make the jouney with me)

Black and red for me in that given choice Yeti.

Don't you go mixing your Beaune (Burgundy) with your claret (Bordeaux), but your sentiments are most welcome.

Try going to the southern parts of Burgundy into Beaujolais, and sample the gamay grape. Living proof that you do not always need to spend over £10 for a lovely taste.

BTW those brakes do look treeeeemendous smile

Should have remembered my Fawlty Towers shouldn't I..? "Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux
and Claret" smile

I really like the look of those, and the red calipers go well with the car. What size have you put on the back?

What are the differences between the DBS, DB9 and DB9 sport pack steering racks too?

You should stop off at the Nurburging after the Black Forest to test out your new upgrades! smile

I believe DB9 Sports pack and DBS racks are the same... Will check with Rick but that's my belief. I asked for the SP rack and he's referred to it as the DBS rack hence my belief. SP was never offered on Volantes due to high speed stability issues so I'm having done what I can, wheels and rack plus Rick sorted the springs and Geo settings. I think the Alps will be a decent proving ground for the mods, the 550 I'm travelling with has the Fiorano handling pack so looking forward to a swap smile

Rear calipers remain standard so just ally-belled lighter discs with the drilled pattern to maintain consistency - so I guess they will stay 330mm!

looks great!
I'd be interested to hear how you get on with cross drilled disc.
A few of the Porsche guys have found they crack around the holes if they are not cleared out. I believe that is also why Aston stick to grooves.

Frustrating how Aston don't put the good stuff on the convertibles frown

I wasn't sure if they were the same or not, had an inclining, but wasn't 100%.

330mm is probably big enough for the rear brakes! They dwarf most cars front brakes hehe Are the rear calipers red to match though?

Err no, they're still silver! Will have all 4 coloured the same when I get back, just ran out of time; might keep the all-red theme, might go black with red writing... Silver with red writing? Yellow with black?

I like the thought of the 'Aston Martin S' logo like the Vanquish or DBS?

They do with the Vantage S Roadster!

When you say clean out the holes, how so? Cracking not good, but I'm hoping that Brembo will be making a quality product, though Porsche generally make the best brakes in the world!

Fingers crossed they work out well - Rick and I had been looking for a while for a well priced upgrade so these might be a regularly offered upgrade. Will keep people informed smile

All red would look good, but yellow callipers with a black AM logo would be my choice smile

Here's a GT3 disc, the holes seem to block causing heat build up.

I've seen Brembos with both and either, I'm sure you will be fine with your cleaning habit wink

I've driven or owned a V8V, V12V, 997C2S, 997 turbo, SL63AMG, S2000, F430

In order of performance, best to worst
1. V12V
2. F430 = V8V
3. 997C2S = S2000
4. 997.2 turbo pdk convertible
5. SL63 AMG

All standard steel except for brembo CCM on V12V.

The brakes on the turbo have no progression and feel like an on/off switch. And they get a bit smelly. The same is true for the SL63 AMG. The Mercedes brakes are rubbish - you start to get neck ache as you cannot just scrub off a few mph.

The V12V brembo CCM brakes are the best thing since something especially fabulous was discovered like free money.

So hopefully the brakes on yours will be unlike my experiences of Porsche brakes.

Now the weird thing is that all the reports of CCM brakes I have read have said that they have no progression but I utterly disagree. Maybe you need to work at it but I love the way the CCM brakes work. You can mash the pedal and drop from XXXmph to a dead stop in ten car lengths or you can come to a nice controlled stop at the lights or drop off a few mph as the road conditions change. I don't want to say that Evo et. al. have got it wrong but my experience is totally the opposite.

Maybe it's because these magazines just hoon around a track and cook the brakes or something but in spirited public road use I think the brembo CCM brakes are the best. And if you've ever read any of my other posts on AML you'll appreciate I am not a flag-waving fanboi...

Apologies Jockman, how dare we talk about brakes on a thread with such a title!

That surprises me, I thought the 997 turbo's would be immense. Do they stop you very well but just a lack of feel? I also thought that the PCCB were standard on the 997.2, or is that just on Turbo S models? Perhaps they are an improvement.

What did you find the brakes were like on the SL63?

Mmm the brakes on the V12V and DBS are up there with the best - pedal feel especially (squeaking drives me nuts though).

However I must admit the steel brakes on every porker I've had (BoxsterS, 997 C2S and 997 Turbo) all felt pretty effective too with a decent pedal feel.

Comparing the carbon stopppers on Astons with Porsche brakes is like comparing caviar with a different caviar. Try the Lambo brakes - ridiculous. Or any mainstream car.

Ridiculously good or ridiculously bad? Never driven one, though I've often thought I'd like to... Does the Gallardo run the same 4-pot Brembos as the DB9 as standard... or did I dream it?
