Hi All,

I have booked my car in with those good people at Stratstone in Amersham for its 2 year, 20k service and want to buy my own oil as some of you already do in order to reduce the cost.

I have read the various threads on oil for the V8V but before I go ahead and buy some I thought I would just check with you one final time.

I believe that I need to buy 12 litres of Castrol Edge Sport 10w-60, is that correct?

If so, where should I but it, Costco, OPIE, etc.?

Thanks in anticpation, Keith.

Keith your Manual will confirm that it is indeed 10-60.

There was a recent debate on the `Sport` issue but I cannot recall what Mr K or Mr Q said in the end as I do not have a V8V - ask your servicing agent for confirmation.

As for price, Costco are good for my 0-40 but don´t know about yours.

Google ? smile

Try posting in the Opie oils thread in general gassing. I think PHers get a discount.

I didnt find that buying it myself was any cheaper ...I do have 4L for top up at home, but certainly the price charged at DMS is cheaper than what I can buy it myself for

I bought 2 years worth from Neilson and saved a lot on the service. Buying in bulk is cheaper per litre if you can. Oh and yes I bought the Castrol edge sport 10/60 rather than the edge without the sport.

Last time I looked it was £8.55 + vat per litre from Rick (0-40).

Getting quite used to Neil´s Alt 156 technique smile

The bill is back in the UK but I`m sure I have given the correct info, Georgeous.

To be fair, even Rick´s rate is higher than Costco, but everything else is priced so competitively you do need to afford the guy some sort of profit margin smile

Couldn't be arsed driving over an hour each way to get some oil though. I'd have to get a massive quantity to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the heads up John, but I will still let Rick deal with it.

Georgeous, I am not sure that rate would be for a straight sale anyway. I would assume that it is a packaged rate as part of the service smile

Keith - check with them if you haven't already. Last time I spoke to them they were not allowing you to take your own oil. If they are allowing it, ask what oil they are using. Reading are using Mobil now for example.

Was told by Michael, one of the service managers, that I could take my own oil when I booked it in. I will ask him what oil they use though, a good point, thanks.

Just to confirm that AM Amersham will let me supply my own oil; spoke to Michael this morning.

They use Castrol Edge Sport 10/60w.

Thanks to all once again.
