Euro road trip
Discussion
I'm currently planning a road trip for next year for me and 5 mates. Plan is to rent a motorhome (although the Aston, and an M3, may well tag along) for 2 weeks and drive about whilst attending the Belgian GP, and then the Italian GP.
I know several people on here take regular Euro driving holidays, so I thought we might get some more ideas of places to visit.
So far we have got:
Ideally we need some places to visit between Luxembourg and Monaco, plus places for the return journey. Any ideas appreciated.

- Amsterdam
- Spa
- Nurburging
- Luxembourg (apparently it's cheap for fags/ale)
- Monaco
- Monza.

Nice one Georgeous - will try some research for you once the vino tinto has subsided.
This month´s AM news had some interesting news on proposed changes to French speed laws which may be of interest to you.
Mind you, if you´re in one of those Winnigaybo thingys you should be ok.
You going to be ok with a roof on your head ?

I'm not sure yet if I should bring the Aston for that very reason. Although having to drive when 4 others are enjoying a beer, whilst playing FIFA could swing the argument for leaving it at home.
But then again, cruising around Monaco is what the Aston was made for! I guess I'll decide closer to the time, still a year off yet, just like to get everything organised early.

So the choice is between parking a gorgeous DB9 volante in front of the Casino in Mount Charles, next to the million pound cars. But then again, cruising around Monaco is what the Aston was made for! Or sharing sweat with 5 other spotty pre-pubescent ´Gamers´on the Priscilla Tour.
Tough one Georgeous
I'm currently doing exactly that. Set off for Spa Grand Prix last Thurs, did the weekend there then headed down through Germany (Nurburgring wasn't open on the Monday so had to give it a miss
). I've done a couple of days in St Moritz, Como and Verbier along the way (with the odd pass thrown in, Stevio, Furka, Grimsel etc) and off to Monaco tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately not got enough time to do Monza GP too so heading to Bilbao in 6 days time to get ferry back to Portsmouth. So far half way through a cracking trip with not too horrific amounts of driving between stops. You've got to take the Aston though, you'll so completely regret it for the passes if you dont. The roof has only been up on the roadster when parked up in hotels too, loving the European lakeside/mountain roads.

Hardly pre-pubescent! I'll be the youngest one there at 24. If you can find something better to pass the mind numbing motorway journeys better than drinking and Fifa, I will be pleased to hear of it Or sharing sweat with 5 other spotty pre-pubescent ´Gamers´on the Priscilla Tour.

It will be far more glamorous than you make out
Parking it in Monaco would be nice, but think of the opposite end of the scale. Amsterdam. I don't fancy leaving it for 2 nights there!

Cruising in a DB9 volante, perchance ?Look at Rich´s excellent posting above.
You can drink and ´Fifa´ whilst in Clitheroe.
BTW ´to Fifa´is technically not a verb

Now that is a good idea. Go to Monza first, then on to Monaco, then down to Barca, then finally along to Bilbao for the ferry home. It's tempting to take the Aston, there are pros and cons to both. Namely, I don't want to put a lot of miles on it really - that trip would almost double what is on it at the minute. I shall decide closer to the time.). Verbier is an excellent call too, I shall look into that.

I don't know yet, I shall look into whether I take the Aston or not at a later date. I've never driven a RHD car on the continent either, that is a bit of a concern. If I could convince the others to take their cars, then I would. Certainly is a good car to be at an F1 event in, although Spa isn't really the most glamorous. I wish I took it to Valencia earlier this year.I have done a revised route.
Good route Georgeous.
You are encompassing 2 of the 3 formidable wine regions, which are probably not going to be noticed by you Gamers.
Bordeaux is the Surrey of France, from where most of the French Kings have materialised, as noted by my Importer.
Yeti posted an excellent route recently in France, you may wish to revisit.
Otherwise, I repeat the recent proposal to alter the speeding laws in France. Most pertinent if you are in the volante

Firstly, I'm not a gamer! Just enjoy playing Fifa from time to time. That's like me suggesting your an alcoholic because you enjoy a glass of red wine occasionally You are encompassing 2 of the 3 formidable wine regions, which are probably not going to be noticed by you Gamers.

The wine regions aren't really that important, would rather go to places with good nightlife.
What are these changes to the speed limits? I cant find anything on google.

I only drink on days ending in a `y´.No changes to speed limits, just proposed changes to the laws. At the moment if you are caught speeding by over 50 kph (30mph) on 2 occasions the police have a legal right to confiscate the car in certain circumstances, subject to permission from a French Judge.
From the Autumn, they will have a legal right to do so on the first occasion.
Moreover - and this is the sting in the tail - if the Judge decides NOT to confiscate the vehicle, he must explain his decision to the authorities.
The owner can of course buy the car back at auction...if it goes to auction. The French Police are permitted to keep the vehicle for their own operational duties

As a Scot, I presume either Super Tennets or Buckfast? No changes to speed limits, just proposed changes to the laws. That is worrying though with the changes they are implementing. I drove through Spain and France earlier this year in the ML and just sat in the outside lane all the way at 160kph. Guess I wont be doing that again

Spain and Portugal are still good if you keep away from the motorways. That is worrying though with the changes they are implementing. I drove through Spain and France earlier this year in the ML and just sat in the outside lane all the way at 160kph. Guess I wont be doing that again

as you can see our authorities and police has gone mad,now when you step in your car you are a potent criminal,we, in France ar surounded by automatic AND car hidden speed camera, and also unmarked bikes and cars able to check your speed while in motion with very small speed cameras. If you want to enjoy your AM go to Germany, i managed to do 200kms doing between 150 AND 185 mph, then crossed the border to be limited to 70MPH.

I would be disapointed if I went on a derestricted road and only managed 185 kph. I do more than that on the UK motorways, not really hard to do more than a mere 115mph.
You is on fire this morning Georgeous. Those speeds are at the top end of the car´s ability, over 200ks on an unrestricted but still public road.
Amazing speeds and an amazing experience !!
