Am gently considering a new short-term fun purchase and would appreciate the view of you chaps. What is the prevailing view on "real" first year depreciation for a new Vantage S i.e. how much could you realistically expect, as far as anyone can tell, from a dealer/broker/punter?

I am perfectly familiar with depreciation but like to know the enemy before I embark!

Buy an 09 or '10 V12 Vantage for the same or less money. Why anybody would walk past a 2k mileage V12 Vantage and buy a new or nearly new V8VS is a complete mystery to me. Unless MPG is a massive concern - but even there - doesn't make sense

I would go for the V8S, Cos I did. Fuel consumption does not come into the equation. I do not wish to rattle you V12 owners but would suggest you drive both. You will be surprised!
Depreciation on any £100000 car can be a bit grim. I changed my V8V after 6 months and was pleasantly amazed, honestly! Take a look at Bentleys.

Dealer margins have dropped a bit recently - the £8K has gone to £5K, so they are offering you a bit more if it's part of a trade in.

And I'm referring to used V12Vs which are getting precariously close to beginning with an £8 smile

Three reasons!
They don't do a V12 roadster
Gaydon discounted a built to order car
The dealer gave me an excellent part ex! wink

Go Mikey Go! Wait until you hear that exhaust. We went out for a ride on Tuesday. I love roundabouts because it justs sticks, no body roll no tyre chirping . Usual screams from Molly when to my surprise she pressed the sport button. Open up the rear artillery and howl down the road. Both laughing we agree time to moderate things but my God, So quick.

There were a few up recently at £92k from dealers so I'm sure getting them below 90 is feasible, although they went quick at those prices.

As for the original Post....if you worry about depreciation don't buy new.

If the V8S goes anywhere like the V8V did, my roadster for example went from a list of something around £108k to £72k in 12 months and 2,800 miles; how much the original buyer actually paid and how much of the trade-in they actually got I couldn't tell you.

And fit either a sportshift or TT2 gearbox smile

I would rather pay the premium and get this one though: http://pistonheads.com/sales/3125216.htm

There is also a nice Lightning silver one with the bonnet louvres painted.

Yes, yes, absolutely yes!

It's bad that I've just gone to look at my finances and done an insurance quote...

ETA: Said quote is significantly less than I anticipated! A V12V costs barely more than a V8V, and a lot less than a DBS.

I don't think you can compare a V8VS and V12V other than on said price. The V8S comes as a convertible and with the single clutch automated manual gearbox. If you want that there is no choice. However, if you go for the V8 coupe there is very little rationale not going for a lightly used V12 instead. Running costs might be sligthly higher on the V12 but with production ending residuals will be stronger. Also, having driven the two cars back to back on the Millbrook Mountain Track there is just nothing beating the torque (and sound) of the V12 engine. The V8S is a great sports car the V12 is a supercar of the old school.

To the OP - the other guys seem to be on a different topic now but my guess would be you are going to waive goodbye to 20 to 25K in the first year......

Really?! Well that has shocked me, I expected it to be the most expensive of the lot. I may run a quote through Admiral tonight smile

My experience was that the V12V quote was cheaper than a DBS with both cars trading at the same price.

Confused.com comes back at £2600 for next year on the V12V. Similar price to the DB9, DBS is just over £3k. Probably some room for negotiation though since I'm on a multicar policy.

For me V8V is £1200, V12V is £1500, DBS was something like £2500.

I didn't realize that the price gap between the V12 and the V8S was so small. I also don't understand why one would choose a coupe V8S if he could get a V12 for nearly the same price, unless he really didn't want to have to operate a manual gearbox.
