National Geographic’s series on ‘Megafactories’ has done some decent profiles of various supercar manufacturers over the past few years. Episode one of the new series is going to follow the One-77 from design to delivery. Should be good.

Here’s the trailer:

Here’s the press release:

Gaydon, 1 September, 2011 – For the first time on television, Aston Martin’s most advanced production car, the One-77 will be showcased on National Geographic’s popular Megafactories series.

Following un-paralleled access to Aston Martin the hour-long programme charts the intense One-77 development programme throughout the three years it has taken from the car's conception in October 2007 to the build of the first production One-77 in October 2010. Filmed in high definition the show illustrates how Aston Martin remains at the forefront of contemporary manufacturing, embodying design and engineering excellence, and a brand with a truly special heritage.

In never seen-before footage of the exclusive facility where up to 77 examples of the One-77 will be hand-crafted, Megafactories details the highly skilled manufacturing process fusing modern technology with traditional hand-craftsmanship and painstaking attention to detail culminating in over 2,700 man-hours to complete the ultimate Aston Martin by a dedicated team of 27 technicians.

The One-77 facility is located in its own specially created standalone building within the company’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Inside the facility the distinctive production space is laboratory-like in its design and detail, an open plan 1,000 sqm serene space with its white walls, floor and ceiling containing four build positions and a host of specialist equipment and tools. The facility is a marked departure from a conventional automotive production space, with each car remaining static throughout the build, rather than progressing from station to station.

Megafactories: Aston Martin launches the new series on one of the world’s largest networks and premiers in the UK on Sunday 4 September, 2011 at 9.00pm on National Geographic, Sky Channels (526, 543-HD) and Virgin Media (230, 232-HD). The show will be broadcast in 64 countries worldwide.

Shem I don’t get the National Geographic channel. D’oh.

Thanks for the heads up Poprock. I'm off to La Manga again in the morning so just enough time to set the Virgin HD Box.

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inconel

you can make fusion reactors out of Inconel.

So it is nuclear physics....

Inconel = better version of titanium and more expensive wink
Doesn't crack under heat and vibration like Titanium can
1-77 also uses gold foil as heat reflectors

Some gas turbine blades are also made out of it. Quite cool to watch it being machined with ceramic tips, flys through it, but the swarf is on fire when it comes off it.

ok, so a geeky fact is that some of the adjustable suspension parts in the 1-77 have a dial to adjust. In the 1-77 they go up to 11.

Google "spinal tap" if you don't get that...

Been in the diary for weeks but fingers crossed some more information to build on my One-77 Registry. I've got images of 36 of the cars so far!

It might be, but if you said - "swapsies for your car", well you would wouldn't you?

I probably could not afford the insurance but you only live once. And it would be a barrel of laughs to drive a car that looks SAS Land Rover "Pink Panther pink" (google it if you don't know)...

I think we can all agree that pink is a girly colour.

In which case do you feel that a ´VD´ reg plate is rather inappropriate smile
