Hi all,

I'm considering a V8 Vantage Coupe and being honest I'd be looking right at the bottom end of the market where there seem to be a few available around the £35k mark. I'm wondering what annual depreciation is like at this age (5 - 6 years old) and how much it's likely to lose each year. Can anyone remember what the cheapest cars were roughly 12 months ago and therefore use that as a benchmark as to where prices might be 12 months from now?

Thanks all,

Alex

Ok thanks - was that privately?

If so then that's about £8k to £10k in the last year... does that sound about right?

Hmmm, I cant see them loosing £8-£10k p/a at that level. More like £3-5k now I would have thought. All depends on the greater economic climate however, if the world economy continues to go to sh*t then everthing we own will be worthless soon! wink

Yes agreed - it's surely slowing down now so £5k over the next 12 months sounds about right I would have thought.

Hmmm very tempting...

When my son and I were looking at 06 coupes 14-18 months ago the prices spanned 43K to 47K for non main dealer cars. Cheaper cars, which on paper sounded like bargains, had either strange colour combinations or had been hammered on too many track days. (Low mileage one owner weekend use only!) Condition is very important and seriously affects the value. Quite a few cars we looked at had been abused or neglected servicing wise. I think you will have to pay at least 40K if you want a really nice example that has been well cared for. My friendly exotic car dealer told me a lot of city slickers traded in their Porsches for V8 Vantages in 2006 and a lot were bought for track days.

I think I have seen a rough leggy one for £30k. Decent ones will always hold their value bettr but I reckon the same rough leggy car, so the bottom of the market will be £28k in a year? Especially if not serviced for 4 years wink

DB7s should keep prices of the Vantage and early DB9 up.

Hi Alex

I was looking for my V8 12 months ago and the lowest prices I can remember for early ones with odd colour combos etc. was around the £40k mark. "High" mileage pushed this to around the £38k to £39k mark. Looking at the prices today compared to what I paid for mine (56 plate 07 model) I reckon mine has lost around £3k in 12 months.

surely theres + or - £5K for buying/selling margin ...if buy from a dealer and pay a premium, sell back to the trade, you are going to be quite a few thousand worse off than if you find a motivated private seller

I bought my MY09 4.7 roadster May 2010 for £71k with 12k miles on it, Just part exed it at £62k (15 months on) with 23k miles on. I had planned on keeping it for 3yrs but the deal I got on a new Vantage S swayed it. Dealer now had it for sale at £69k.

A call to a few dealers might be in order, I was recently offered from a west mids Aston main dealer £33K for a perfect 07 with 17K miles.

But then you are comparing a part ex/dealer bid value with selling privately. I can only go by what I paid 12 months ago and roughly what an MY07 is selling for now (having to guess to a certain extent the sales price vs. listed price of course).

The problem is they are not selling privately, and in the end the trade is the only place to sell to. I wish the best of luck to sellers who try to find a private buyer in this market-

Agree this may be an issue. It's strange as they were all getting snapped up around 12 months ago. Good ones going within a matter of a week, if that. Well I will happily keep hold of the V8 if the only alternative is to have my pants pulled down by a main dealer at some point down the line.

Thanks all for the replies.

I need to decide what to do with my current car - a Z4 M Coupe. I can manage without a car and use my girlfriends for a few months so I suspect I may be better off trying to sell that privately now (maybe easier said than done) and then just wait patiently until a good deal comes along. I presume around Christmas is a good time to buy as I imagine business is a bit slow for dealers then?

That sounds almost too good to be true. Are you in the trade or a private buyer?
