Hi guys!

So lately, I've just purchased a 2nd hand AMV8 Roadster 2009 model (all black with black interior and caramel stitching - nice!)

I'm quite happy with it, however, I've just encountered an issue, in which my booklet doesn't mention any solution to. First I believed it was due to the memory seats, but it wasn't (tried pressing the 1,2,3 buttons/holding them down). I've tried to move the seat backwards, but nothing works. The back button on both of them (one for the buttocks, the other for the back) do not react to anything. I can move both the buttons forward and the seat goes towards the steering wheel. The issue is I'm too scared to push it more forward...I'll literally be sitting with my chest up against the steering wheel if it goes any further. Any solution to this/reset on the seat?

The passenger seat works perfectly...Just the driver seat is "stuck"

Hope any of you can advice on this issue!

Cheers!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can reset the seat mechanisms by motoring it fully forward and then up to it's highest setting. (Similar to recalibrating the windows)

If anyone else can confirm this, I'll take the risk.

Literally, I'm not much up for that idea, but if it's the only way of resetting it (i know about the windows since it is mentioned in the booklet), I guess I have no other choice.

My seats on my 09 V8 Roadster jammed up on Sunday morning, I set a new memory and then they wouldn't work again for about 2 hours in any direction. Then they magically restarted just as I was on the verge of calling Aston.

Sorry that doesn't really help but you may get lucky and they just start again too?

Hi, there's how to reset the seats in the FAQ's, at the top of the forum page. HTH

+1
or
Try the battery disconnect button in the boot to try and "reset" the seat ECU (you will lose the Audio setting and the windows will need resetting)

I had something slightly different on my last roadster.
Bit of play in the foward/back gears.
Aston replaced the frame. The seat then refused to go down all the way.
4 days and one loom (under warranty) later all was good.

Certainly disconcerning when I tried to pull it all the way up hoping it would reset and let me slide it back.

Now my car is undriveable.

OK,

Looking at the picture you've got ignition on. Is the seat all the way forward, with the seat squab, all the way up, as well as the backrest?
Normally works, which is why its described in the FAQ's - well not failed to work for anyone else - yet!

You don't need the ignition on if the driver's door is open.

you will find in each instance the seat will only move in one direction, and usually starting with forward, make sure that the seat is moved to the end of it's travel then try the movement in other directions which is usually vertically next, and again make sure it goes right to the end of movement , you may have to move in three separate directions before full functionality returns, only ever seen one faulty switch and I get asked weekly by people were the seat does exactly as you describe, in many cases a low battery so do not be concerned it will return to normal,

Hey all

Thanks for the replies.

My AMV8 is "faulty" at the moment since the "break lights" are on constantly (something lose near the break paddle - if I put a finger to that electrical device the light goes off, but once I remove my finger, it goes back on again). Needs servicing, but can't get it to service if my seat is in such upright position.

Literally the seat won't move either forward or backwards now, so I'm waiting for the battery to completely die, jumpstart the vehicle and hopefully some settings will have reset - Any comments to this idea?

And I need the doors closed in order for it to reset like the windows??

Cheers!

I don't understand why are you waiting for the battery to die and then jump starting the car. If the battery state is low connect the battery conditioner (If you have one) and try again when it is fully charged.

@ brakedwell: I got a CTEK already, but no power socket within 400 meters (don't ask me who thought it would be funny not to place a power socket where I'm parked)

Also the break light comes on whenever the car has a bit of battery in it. The battery has been low ever since I received it over here (long story short, it was exported).

The base cannot go further, but what sound will it make for it to "reset"?

I had something similar on my last one (turned out to be a faulty seat loom).
As I said - hit the battery switch in the boot and recharge the battery to full power.
If there isn't enough in it ALL SORTS of weird things happen!
Once it's charged try the seat reset as Rick says
Window reset needs to be doors closed and roof up.

The battery disconnect button in the boot does absolute nothing. Anyone got an idea why? Could it be because the break-lights are constantly on?

Oh dear. If the battery has been drained by the brake lights over a long period it may be incapable of holding a full charge, which could be the reason for the seat problem. I would jump start the car and have a real go at resetting the seat with the engine running as rick-derby suggested. Then take it to a dealer to have the brake light switch replaced.

You can hear a little click when the windows reset, not sure about the seat.

@ franki: No warranty when you export it smile

@ brakedwell: Yes, I'll have a go at it after the jumpstart. Shame there's no complete reset button.

Worst case scenario is that I get the car on, and get it towed to a work shop who could probably fix this issue. Weird things happen when the battery is near dead, i.e. my boot couldnt open when I jumpstarted it, but when I switched off the ignition and turned the car back on again it worked.
