Last Sunday I returned from my 3400 mile road trip (France/Spain) in my V8V. It was a real pleasure to drive and it was nice to see the car getting lots of kind words and having photos taken. I even got videoed as I drove out of a car wash!

Didnt see any other AMs on the roads but did see two Maseratis (yak!).

On return the car needed a service (10k miles since Feb!) and it was booked in at Derby Motor Services for last Monday. I was calling in at Derby on my way down to Cambridge so I stayed in their reception area drinking coffee, eating bacon buts and chatting whilst also doing some work email catchup! Anyway, Rick and his team his team did a really good job and it was a pleasure chatting to him about AM stuff. It is indeed hartening to know that I am not the only one who occasionally stalls in reverse! DMS - thoroughly recommended!

Anyway now onto the story. My trip was to visit my dad who lives in Spain. My wife and I drove down to see him and the rest of my family flew over to meet up with us. When we went out for meals we had to take 2 cars and they took it in turns as to who came with me in the Aston. One night, we went out and had a meal and some drinks and on this occasion it was my eldest daughters boyfriend Steve who I took as my passenger. It was still hot at night so we always had the windows down. I followed my dad home and we came across lots of police at a roundabout. They waved my dad on but made me stop. The policeman walked up to the passenger side (!) and started talking Spanish to Steve. I shouted hello from my side of the car but was ignored. When the policeman realised we didnt speak Spanish, he started demonstrating to Steve how to blow into his breathaliser machine. Steve looked at me and I shrugged and so Steve followed the instructions and took the breathaliser tests! The policeman examined the results and decided Steve had passed and so waved us on. Well, we couldnt believe the copper could have been so thick! He was standing right next to Steve who clearly did not have a stearing wheel in front of him AND I had my GB sticker on his side of the car. When we got back to the house, it took us ages to convince the rest of them that we werent making the story up - noone would believe us. I shudder to think what would have happened if Steve had failed the test!

Good times and a great trip.

Tony.

Maybe someone should have breath tested the copper. Genius.

My own personal road trip starts tomorrow. I am leaving Sussex and heading to Peterborough, before a night in Derby and the car being serviced Tuesday morning.

It'll be the longest journey I have done since driving the car down from Leeds when I bought it a year ago!

I'll be updating on whether I get a bacon sarnie or not!
