Guys,
Quick (and daft) question; can you put short plates on the back of an Aston V8V (2006)?
I have always ran a short plate on previous cars and now my private reg has been transferred over I need to do the swap on the Aston. Obviously the short plate will go on the front no problem (i'm removing the number plate stand) however IIRC you can't put one on the back as there are holes/gaps in the bumper behind where the plate sits rather than just a solid bit of body. Anyone taken the plate off at the rear and seen what's underneath?
I'm only asking as I need to know if I should order new plates up today online (standard length) or leave it and risk not being able to fit my short plates when I get home.
Cheers

How short is short?
I had these on mine
All that is behind there is the two eye boss and a small slot either side for screws to the plate
Mikey, your car looks like it would benefit from the little plastic thingys you can get that are on the American V8V's to fill the gap slightly.I had these on mine

Steve*B mentioned them in this recent thread - http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t...
James - it was part of this trip

Just a thought people's from following the link to the how to do it from April, Ice states that the police can only stop a vehicle if a moving traffic offence has been committed. I'm not sure where Ice is getting this from but Section 163 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 gives a police officer in uniform the power to stop any vehicle on a road - they do not need a reason. Just in case anybody gets stopped and they mistakenly enter into a debate with the officer which will only get you inconvenienced or worse.
It's a technicality really. A Police Officer has the power to stop any vehicle in order to check documents or for a moving traffic offence and can deal with any other offences disclosed. There is no power to stop a vehicle because of illegal number plates because these are not covered by the Road Traffic Act and you are unlikely to be stopped.
Having stopped however, you are unlikely to win any argument about he number plates. If you're polite, you may just get some friendly advice....

Thought I would update on this guys.
The roadster must be different to the coupe as I have taken the rear plates off and was left with a massive gaping hole the length of the number plate behind it. There is a brace to fit the plates to but that's about it. If you put a short plate on it you would be left with a three inch hole on either side - which would obviously look daft. I therefore had to get normal plates made up and put them on instead.
Basically, the only way to do this at least on earlier coupe cars is to get the US upgrade - but no one seems to know how much that is (going to ask the dealer when it's in on Wednesday and update again).
