I bought a 2008 V8 Vantage roadster from Aston Martin Cambridge earlier this year.

For me it was a dream car and the exact spec I wanted, Tungsten with Chancellor red in manual with 19k and fully loaded

I have only done just over 1000 miles in it, just got it how I wanted it with Antherite alloys and clear rears. Also just had a health check at Hagley Aston Martin, so its perfect.

My job now requires me to go abroad for 2-6 months, so do I sell now or keep garaged and hope that it doesn’t depreciate too much whilst I am away.

My worry is I only use it as a weekend toy, if I go away soon it will be awful weather when I get back so wont want to use it at all. The warrenty will also be being wasted.

Confused as I love the car but really don’t want to loose ££££'s while I cant even see the car

Whats peoples thoughts ?

You can't seriously worry about cars depreciating. Leave the car and enjoy it when you return.

Don’t sell for 2-6 months of absence (unless you have someone who will pay big $ for your configuration).

Sell for 2-6 YEARS of absence.

And why would you not drive it in bad weather? I drive mine summer and winter... Without winter tires you can still drive it in rain. It’s very capable with the limited slip diff. It’s not the Ferrari Diva a friend of mine has...

Keep it I'll be driving mine in the winter, only time I won't will be when it snows. But frost and rain will jsut take care and more washing to get the road salt off.

Not a hope unfortunately frown
Roadster prices start dropping about now until they recover in the spring.
Bit of a dilema that.
Having said that it sound like you'd be abroad when the weather is crap and you are less likely to us it.
After all 1000 miles in it so far is not a lot wink

Just got my dream car - shall I sell it?
I think you should take a photo of it, use it as your laptop wallpaper to remind you to hurry home.

You lost the most money when you drove it off the forecourt, enjoy your dream car! Even if you have to be seperated for a number of weeks, it isn't going to be worth much less in a few months, it will cost you more to buy another one next year with the dealer mark up. Keep it I vote...

You are going to get hit with depreciation either way - put it on the market and make the judgement when you know what you are being offered . I suspect you'll end up keeping it but at least you will have made a rational decision.

Nooo, keep it! Think of it this way... if you sell it now, you'll take a hit of perhaps 10-15% on the dealer price you paid. As the car ages, it will depreciate more slowly, so you won't feel the pain so bad as the years pass.

And buy some winter tyres so you can have some fun when you get back smile

I've got a similar dilemma. I look at this as being a repo trade - you have a cost to carry the position (long one AM V8) which includes any financing, depreciation, maintenance, garaging and so on. Work out that number.

Then work out what the bid/ask spread is for the sale and then purchase.

I expect you'll pay about £8k spread for the sale and repurchase.

Depreciation and what not for six months is going to be about £8k.

So - financially it's net flat. Add in all of the sheer bloody hassle of selling a car and then finding a new one and for me it's clear. Hold and carry the position, don't sell the car.

All of the above. Except Ferraris can also be used all year round. It's not the car that's the problem.

What Jockers said too - stop being a girl.

Couple of months isn't too long, 6months is pushing on but if you like the car then i'd keep it.

I bought my V8V did 150miles on the day I got it and then buggered off 4 weeks on business.

It was a long 4 weeks for me rolleyes but getting re-acquainted was extra special smile

I learned a lesson many years ago, I was a garage queen just using the car in the summer on nice days. Wash it, and put it back in the garage after use.
Tbh I didnt enjoy it so much, forever worried about getting any tiny marks or getting it dirty. Used to stress me and took away the enjoyment.

Once I started using my cars as normal cars, I found I bonded with them and enjoyed them. They are made to be used in rain, cold, and salt. Just use it and enjoy it, even in the winter when you come back.
At the end of the day, you can clean it and she's back to shiny new again smile
