V8S The Story so far
Discussion
First a brief resume,
We took delivery of a new V8V in Jan, covered 5500 miles in 6 months including NW Scotland and a fast Le Mans > The Aston is simply superb, we loved it.
Trouble as some of you know was looming, I had a test drive of a V8S , chose not to tell the lovely Molly; did the very favourable deal!
When driving home we both agreed , a very very different car. Molly even remarked that touring would be out of the question in such a noisy uncompromising hard riding beast. I loved it!
From the top, V8S looks so very much more planted, the steering seems easier , you relax you turn , you gas it " God it flies" quite how it revs so fast is incredible. The paddle shift is Oh So Fast in Sport mode. Drive it , Learn it , believe me it is that good. There is a drive mode which I guess would be usefull in a city environment, soon as you touch the paddles it goes manual.
To those of you that hanker for that V8 burble , your prayers are all answered, this car of ours sounds like artillery with accompanying wheezes, bangs and God knows what else. I LOVE IT! We would never criticise our last Aston , believe me the V8S is in a different league.
Having driven a V12V I reckon a V8S would run it very close. I do not wish to upset anyone but can you manually shift as fast as an S.
To be continued,
Rob

Both of the Aston drivers I spoke to confirmed that they could drive the 'S' quicker than the V12 round the alpine circuit at Millbrook. We took delivery of a new V8V in Jan, covered 5500 miles in 6 months including NW Scotland and a fast Le Mans > The Aston is simply superb, we loved it.

Having had extended test drives of both, I would agree that it's quicker (in most real world scenarios) than the V12.
I think sometimes there may be a little bit of telling the owner what they want to hear. Both Aston drivers on my recent PDC stated the V12V was the best all round on track and road, and the car they most enjoyed driving. Note I said best, not necessarily the quickest.
I wonder what the comments would have been had I been taking it in a V8VS or any other car!
The V8VS is truly gorgeous and when the suns out I have dabbled with the idea of going back to a Roadster.

I have no idea which would really be fastest in the hands of a crappy driver like me....
But I've heard this sort of buttering up so many times when buying expensive things "oh Sir, this Breguet looks wonderful on your wrist", "this V8 is a sweet one, there's no doubt"...
I file it under the "whatever" category.
But it would be fun to find out :-)

Only option for me is a V8S roadster, really looking forward to comparing it on a good long run to me V8 Sport Pack
Still wish AM had done a V12 roadster, I found out the other day it would not have passed US safety test so it never got built

Well, I have neither a V8S nor a V12 so they could easily have been telling me what they thought without having to worry about offending me.I wonder what the comments would have been had I been taking it in a V8VS or any other car!

I think that which of the V12V and the V8S is fastest around a track depends a lot upon both the driver and the track. Regardless, I would be surprised if the V8S could beat the V12V in terms of real-world driving enjoyment. The torque of the V12V is amazing and makes me smile (and sometimes laugh out loud) every time I put down my right foot.
Car has completed 460 miles, did about 50 this afternoon.
From memory. Approaching corner maybe a little too hot, caress the brake pedal momentarily then flick the left paddle not once but twice the sound My God is spine tingling . Accelerate around the bend then fire her down the long straight, it revs so fast that we short shift back up the box , too fast, time to slow down. At this point Molly had been driving for about 12 miles; her first fast 12 miles. Believe me our V8S is that good.
I think that when a car is this good it is not appropriate to compare it to the V12 they are too disimilar in lots of respects. The S is a bit of a hooligan, if that is your bag go for it. Our initial misgivings have been dispelled
I and Molly love it.
