I have made arrangements to have a font end wrap down and enquired about removing and renewing the rear parts which are OE, I have stone guards so it is both upper and low parts. The comment I had back was that removal of the factory ones sometimes removes or damages the paint beneath. Anyone had this problem? I don't fancy the risk.

We had ours re-done a couple of years ago.... no damage in spite of being there for 3 years prior.
Not guaranteeing yours though!

They are applied before the paint has "fully set" which can take 3-4 weeks.
If you are no careful you will lift the lacquer and possibly the paint.
IME it is OK if you soften it with warm water and then use a hair dryer to keep the line you are peeling away soft.
Do it slowly and carefully!
Wipe away any remaining adhesive gently with white spirit on a clean cloth and wash straight after wards.

Job done!
