thinking of selling my 993 and have test drove a db7 vantage touchtronic {need to use the back seats now and then} car has had the coil pack and the aircon both done inside the last year.
how much would you reasonable put aside a year for running [ not fuel or insurance}
had the 993 for 3 years never put a foot wrong as reliable as a hammer and only needed servicing etc but always had this urge to own an aston
are the i6 db7 a bit of a let down in manual form ?
or do i pocket the money and see if v8 vantages drop to 25k in the next year or so {i know no back seats but by then may not be such a need for 2+2

I think £2k/year is generally the standard answer for this - mine was considerably more as it needed work but if you're getting a good one, you may not get to there. 6k service interval and theoretically every 6 months as well. 993 will be a lot less to run, as loathed as I am to say it, my 964 was maintenance free for a year!

Manuals are nice boxes but TT is a good compromise for the DB7 Vantage. i6 is a little old now but a lovely Aston that's becoming a classic. I think it will feel quite old fashioned even coming from a 993.

I don't think Vantage V8s will drop to £25k anytime soon, unless you find one on 18" wheels, without xenons or satnav that's done 120,000miles as a track day car wink

Even if you could get that car for 30k (would be a push), it would still have to lose 17% more in 12mths. Not going to happen IMO. I can't see decent condition and spec V8Vs going regularly for 25k for a couple of years yet.

However, if your budget could stretch to it I'd probably go for a V8V in preference to a DB7 - it will stand more of a chance of feeling more modern from the 993, it will be a quicker and better drive point to point in all likelihood and will probably prove more reliable than a DB7.

Agree on all points there - at £25k even in a few years time the Vantage will be a cheap car and I think only the rougest cars will get there any time soon. What will a decent DB7 Vantage be by then??

I guess 911s are a good guide, decent 996s are still £20k, 'ordinary' standard/leggy ones can be found for £11k. Add 25%?
