Perhaps I'm too much of a purist, and the only bit of after-market kit I've had fitted in my V8V is an iPod adaptor, but ...

... there seems to be more and more examples of tricked-up, chav'd, max-powered, or otherwise fiddled-with Astons. In my opinion it's beginning to lower the marque somewhat.

People have always sought to personalise their cars. Some to the good, and others appalling. At the end of the day I guess its personal choice. Imho it doesnt devalue the marque, but if done badly will devalue the vehicle concerned.

Many mods do actually enhance the original.

Overall I think its nice that we dont see every car identical as to how it left the factory.

Must be a market for it, there are a lot of the "specialist" tuners offering this sort of thing.

There seems to be predominantly people who modify the visual side of the car - and completely ruin it.

Then there seems to be the other side, people like Yeti, who modify it for performance. That seems completely acceptable imo, but fitting horrible alloys / body kits etc definitely is not!

I'll stick with everything OEM though smile

There is a massive difference between fiddled with, modded and chaved
I'm a serial modder and will end up doing bits to mine.
Rest assured they will be subtle and worthwhile.

Here's a link to my old car which I spent far too much ££££ on doing.
It was faster and handled way better than my Sports Pack Vantage.

In terms of lowering the marque, it is inevitable as the early vantages get cheaper and more accessible.
The saving grace is parts and labour for "modding" will always be high compared to the usual chariots laugh

ATEOD EVERY SINGLE car manufacturer is building to a price to ensure margin.
Nothing wrong with owners spending a bit more to tweak.

I intend on getting a MY2008/2009 Vantage once I sell my Jag and spend some time finding the right car.

If it doesn't have clear lights I will put them on. I may even go for the N400/420 sills too, but that is only a possibility at the moment. I may change my mind once I actually get the car.

I don't intend on any other cosmetic mods in any way, shape or form and I certainly won't entertain any mods of any description on a car which is still in warranty.

As for performance mods, it very much depends on whether I get a 4.3 or 4.7 and whether I like the sound of the exhaust note on the particular vehcle I buy. I am not averse to engine mods to increase performance and MPG so it is something I shall consider once I get the car I want.

Remember Aston has expanded it range with the Vantage that appeals to a much younger generation.
Aston's have always had an 'old man slippers' image, I feel the Vantage has bought a new lease of life to the Aston brand as a whole. Therefore we all benifit.

Compared to the rest of the spoiler laden, carbon fiber, garish coloured bling competitors, the Aston is still a gentleman's car with class.

Part of the ownership and joy for many is personalizing the car, this has gone on for years with all marques . Some do it with taste others don't, but it's their pride and joy and brings them happiness. So why not?
These same guys wont understand why you bought your standard car with the colour combination or options you have, may it be leather colour or wood or choice of wheels. In a way, you have done that 'after market' personalization while ticking the option boxes from new.

Examples? There are always the cars that the tuners show at exhibitions which can be horrifying but I have yet to see one on the road or at an event? Wondering if there are some examples in the classifieds wink

It does seem to be the Vantages though and I guess a £30k'something car is affordable by the sort who perhaps would normally have spent the money on a Skyline.

As can be seen on my threads, I have a fitted a DBS bonnet to my car, sports pack wheels, lowered it, spacered it and fitted better grille mesh and clear rear lenses. I will also have a different interior. Have I spoiled it? I don't think so. Is it abetter car for me? Absolutely smile

This is a very emotive subject and once individual's form an idea he/she wont be swayed. my Vantage has been modified more than any other I am aware of. the few changes externaly are small in my mind not wrecking the fabulous lines or classic Aston image. but on the inside/engine the cars performance and capabilities have been transformed into the Porsche 911 beater it should always have been.
This isn't chaving an Aston but transforming the pace to match the looks. which in my mind was something Aston themselves failed to deliver.
Whilst the classy brand value I totally get, being beaten off the lights by a BMW 530m diesel is less atttractive !! but of course that doesnt happen any more.

Hate it when people use the word Chav, so done to death.

I bet your the sort of person that would judge a person by just the sort of car they have.

I say F everyone else if you want to do it, go and do it. Its your life don't let it be dictated by others.

I would say its people like you that lower the marque.

The clear rear lights are a must have!!! They really do improve the look of the car.... Mine are going on this week... I cannot make my mind up on the sills... On the V12 yes!! they look great to compliment the extra air intakes on the bonnet!!

I have taken a lot of advice on here regarding after market wheels, and have decided that the car looks magnificent as it is.. Just very minor details can improve the look enough.. But sayiing that its individual choice.
