Anyone from here doing the AMOC track day tomorrow?

Watch out for the pre-war cars. A lot slower then everything else, but they will always take the racing line regardless of whats behind them (and despite being told to keep right unless overtaking)
I am *very* aware of the importance of the racing line... and skill.Last year, I had to let a chap in a db4 overtake me. He had over 200hp less than me. Every time that we hit a straight, he disappeared into the distance in my rear view mirror. Unfortunately, everytime we came out of a bend, he was right up my backside. So, after 3 bends, I had to let him pass me.
Tomorrow, I hope to do a bit better.
TBH, I would really feel proud if I got Black Flagged for doing a 360. Unfortunately, I am probably too old to take the risk.
That's the problem with a DB9.
By the time that you can afford one, you are too old to really enjoy it properly.
GeorgeH,
You are young enough to not give a damn. Why don't you get out on the track and take some video that will make us old folks salivate?

As much as I would love to, Goodwood is a fair commute away (12 hr round trip according to google). I'd love to have a do, but I've never been on a track day in any sort of car, I think I would need some practice in something less powerful to sort of get my eye in for driving on edge. Part of me would cringe about ragging my pride and joy about too.You are young enough to not give a damn. Why don't you get out on the track and take some video that will make us old folks salivate?

Just out of curiosity, do these Aston track days not have noise limits? Are convertibles allowed on too?
I was at the Aston track day at Brands Hatch yesterday. It was good fun. They invited me to drive the Virage, which is exactly the way you'd expect it to be, but with some nice new touches, such as all the round buttons inside now being glass.
I'm now tempted to take my own car to one. Yesterday emphasised how out of practice I am, not having been on track since my first child was born five years ago.

The Goodwood day has a limit of 105dB. I think that my car is about 95. There were a few convertibles there today - and they were out with their tops down in the afternoon.Just out of curiosity, do these Aston track days not have noise limits? Are convertibles allowed on too?
Some of the Astons had a "Prodrive" kit, and these did have a noise issue. However, I think that they had a switch which fixed the problem. (I have no idea what a Prodrive kit is).
Reading the rest of your post, I really think that you would get both short and long term enjoyment from the AM Performance Driving Course. In the short term, it is an utterly brilliant day. In the longer term you will be able do things like drifting around roundabouts in complete safety. You also don't have to rag your own car. AM supply the car, and unlike driving "experience" days, they really encourage you to push the car as hard as you can.
These cars are designed for high performance driving. The gearbox is tough. The diff is tough. In fact the whole car is designed to cope with the power that the engine can produce.
So, don't worry about "ragging the engine". You won't.

I have just been reading up on the Performance Driving course you recommended, it does look a good idea, and I think doing it in someone else's car is a much better idea to start with. I will definitely be looking into that, and can hopefully co-ordinate it with a Newport Pagnell tour too. Some of the Astons had a "Prodrive" kit, and these did have a noise issue. However, I think that they had a switch which fixed the problem. (I have no idea what a Prodrive kit is).

Again you are probably right, the car's abilities will vastly outweigh mine. Pointless being built for speed if it isn't taken advantage of.

Don I hope you didn't forget to put a card in your camera this year !! Unfortunately I was 3rd or 4th reserve so I'm on the October one.
PS My V8 is 100dbA
Please don't remind me!PS My V8 is 100dbA
I certainly did have a card this year... and a camera. I did look to see if you were there. TBH, you were probably lucky that you missed it. The track was very wet and slippery all morning. Most of us were driving very gingerly.
On my first lap, I nearly spun out as I exited the chicane - which shook me up a bit. A Ferrari did spin out and hit something hard. He needs a new front bumper, and some paintwork. A Vantage also spun out, fortunately without any damage.
The track dried out during the lunch break, and we had a great afternoon.
I should be there in October with camera... and card
