Hi all, I have noticed the paint on the driver side door mirror surround on my DB9 is starting to lift off. It looks darker than the paint on the rest of the car (Meteorite Silver) and also appears to have a different, almost rubbery, texture. Is this a special coating rather than paint ? Dealership not particularly helpful although they did suggest an AM approved repair outfit could have a look…rolleyes

Thanks for any comments and have a great weekend !

The paint started to lift and bubble on the mirror support my 'old' V8V, - pointed it out to the AM Service Mgr, and it was replaced under warranty without quibble.

Thanks, interesting they covered it under warranty, my local dealer took a look and just gave me details of one of their approved repair outfits frown I was given the impression this kind of thing would not be covered under the extended warranty (my DB9 is a '55 model although it has just under 20,000 miles on the clock). I may give this a try again before I get it done independently.

Cheers, Gerry

Hi Gerry, Exactly the same happened on my 55 DB9. Those parts are made od aluminium and unless perfectly sealed by paint will bubble and break the top coat of paint.
Rather than arsing around with a body shop for several days to repaint them then get a stone chip and having to repeat the process I went to my local vinyl wrap place spent 5mins taking each off then 20mins getting them wrapped in matt black vinyl and 5 mins putting them back on.
Unlikely to get a chip go through vinyl and only cost about £40.

Hi Warren, thanks for that tip, sounds like a much better solution ! Now all I have to do is find a local vinyl wrap place near me biggrin

I also assume taking the surrounds off is just a question of unscrewing from the inside and disconnecting the electrics ? Will have a look at the manual you kindly sent me a couple of weeks ago thumbup

Cheers, Gerry
