Hi there,
First post here on PistonHeads. I have been active on the Aston forum of 6speedonline.com as "Racer_X" for a while now, and I was happy to have Mike ("BamfordMike") join us there to share his great knowledge of Aston Martin cars. When the restrictions on the 6speed site caused Mike to move on, I decided to follow him here to PistonHeads.
As for my cars, I had a 2007 V8 Vantage (Titanium Silver/black) and recently traded it in to purchase a 2011 V12 Vantage (Quantum Silver/black). I really love Aston Martins and I look forward to chatting with you guys about all things Aston.
Cheers,
Dave

Think you will find less rules on this forum.
The threads on 6speed (minus intervention) were always lively and enjoyable.
Look forward to chatting with you on here...!
Mike.

Theoretically number 14, but Michael hasn´t expressed a preference yet so hang fire Pete.
Can´t believe you´re actually asking to go on the list
To my mind, little point putting off the inevitable. Can´t believe you´re actually asking to go on the list

I have been online in many forums and a member of PistonHeads since the early days. After joining 6speedonline, I have been surprised at how restrictive and uptight they seem to be. When I pointed out this in a thread discussing banning Mike, the moderator even suggested that "maybe this isn't the forum for me"! Well with an attitude like that, I'm starting to wonder too. I think they're so concerned with monetizing their website that they have lost site of the main goal of a forum from the user's perspective. It's a shame too, because there are some nice people in that community—maybe we need to have them move over here.
Since I'm on "gripe mode" I'd also like to point out that if you try to use their website from Safari on the iPhone, it will "remind" you on a daily basis that there is a 6speed "app" you can use instead. Of course, the app is emblazoned with sponsored ads which restrict the usable message space on the screen to about 50% of the entire display. If you say "No Thanks" to the friendly reminder, the website then tries to force you into the mobile version of the site instead. Very annoying. Hmm, maybe the moderator was right. Maybe that isn't the forum for me…
The best forum I have been on was LamboPower in the early days. Those were a crazy, fun loving bunch if I ever saw one. I remember one guy used to post pictures every week of different, scantily clad (or often unclad) women he would bring home from clubs to pose on the cars in his garage. Oh, those were the days… [nostalgia mode OFF]
We may not have that here, but at least we have BamfordMike. (…and Jockman for comedic relief).

The ad banners in the iPhone app really do suck. Why in the name of all that is holy do they need two of the same ad on each page?!KarlFranz said:

Thanks KF. Yeah, I was really disappointed when Mike got pushed out, especially when so many of us were interested in what he had to say (okay, a few folks clearly did not want to hear what he had to say, which is to say some people do not want to hear the truth on some issues). There are a lot of restrictions on the site, however, I've seen this on other sites too. I'm on one site where they are militant (irony) about not having what they call "gun pics." One guy was kicked off the site because his avatar was a picture of Daniel Craig in a Bond movie and he was holding a gun. Crazy. The iPhone access of 6speed is annoying, especially the part about them forcing you to the mobile app even when you say "no thanks" or equivalent. FWIW, you can scroll to the bottom of the page after it loads on Safari and select "old version" or equivalent to get the normal view of the site. While we're griping, I'll gripe that the mood on the Aston forum on 6speed can be a bit chilly. Whereas people are typically welcoming on other forums (unless you say something stupid), I just don't get this sense on the Aston forum of 6speed. On other sites I feel like I have buddies on the forum. Although there are a few guys that I feel that way about on 6speed, it seems like most are not interested in that. Okay, enough complaining from me!
That's funny about the Lambo site. Sounds about right for the Lambo guys (and that's not a criticism). Times have changed. Clearly couldn't get away with something like that these days.
Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the insight into other forums, it´s an intersting world out there !
People seem to forget that a forum is a collective, and as such is highly dependent on the quality of its members for its survival. A benign Moderator is essential to facilitate healthy debate, and I think Big Al has to be commended on this front.
Some people join the forum for pure car reasons, others for more social reasons. For the majority I would venture that it is a bit of both. Forums without a human thread would be boring, especially if you concede that membership is a tacit admission that you do not know the answer to everything

Just out of interest, but what chassis number do you have? I'm curious - since we should see it's between 800 and 1000 if other posts are correct about sales to the US.Dave
