Just a quick check to see whether this is "normal" or not. Rear tyres seems to be wearing a little more on the outside than across the middle/inside of the tyre. Approx. 1.5mm more so not a huge amount. Normal wear on a V8V or indicative that the geo could do with some treatment?

Cheers

It's normal if you look closely the last tread grove is abot 1mm higher than the rest. Hope this makes sense.

Or if the wear is too bad, it could potentially be caused by incorrect suspension geometry.

This thread may be useful possibly - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Thanks guys. I had seen the thread on geometry and maybe it's time to get mine done anyway. The tyres seem to wear pretty much evenly. The fronts wear slightly more on the inside and outside (no more than 1mm difference to the centre and I'm told normal due to cornering) and the rears seem to wear slightly more on just the outer tread.

Fullmel - are you saying that the tyres actually start with 1mm less tread on the outer edges anyway, hence the fact they seem to wear more there?

Yes the rears do start with aprox 1 mm less tread on the outer tread groove.
You can see this better on a brand new tyre.

I've just put brand new AM RE050's on mine and cannot see a difference in tread depth from new confused

If the tyres are wearing unevenly on the outside edge it points to too little rear camber or a rear toe out. Either way it would "feel" fidgety, get the geo checked any way (by some one who knows what they are talking about wink )

Most RWD cars wear the inside edge as the camber needed to corner well causes the inside edge to wear when driving in straight lines.

Thanks Mikey. I expected them to wear on the inside if anything (my old M3 wore in this way due to the toe in). To be fair the car feels well planted but perhaps I don't know how the car should really feel seeing as I have not had the geo done in my ownership.

Sounds like it's a good time to just get the geo checked. I was going to use Wheels in Motion up at Chesham as I have heard good things about them and they are not far away for me.
