V8V Roadster on a budget
Discussion
Help please,
I am looking for a V8V Roadster on a small budget.
Definition of an optimist...................
''A person who thinks that they can just afford to run an Aston Martin''
liked this quote from another thread, wise words.
I like the champagne lifestyle on an Sprite budget.
Had four TVRs (Chim, Griff 500 and two T350ts, one of which ended up short wheel base). So now have a 911 996 C2 Cab which is great but not an Aston clearly.
Sportshift appeals as do black, tungsten etc.
I just realised that a 2007 V8V roadster books at £47000 now and dealers are looking to pick them up at a couple of grand shy of that. Francised dealers are even in low £50Ks for sale.
The servicing looks affordable as long as nothing major goes wrong ( a boss of mine had his die in Finland and the costs were shocking, (he drives a Citroen C2 now, no joke!)poor chap in more ways than one.
Anyone know of a well cared for car at the right price please tell me?.
Any good shopping advice also gratefully received.

Roadster prices peak in the summer and they sell quickly just look how few are for sale on here!
Buy one January time when xmas debt and the weather put people off
Agreed, you'll struggle to find a bargain at this time of year, any decent car will sell for what its worth right now! Buy one January time when xmas debt and the weather put people off
Options are to up the budget and pay the going rate plus a littl more due to seasonality, or as mentioned above, buy at Christmas. People who were thinking of selling anyway suddenly realise they haven't driven it for 3 months, are paying through the nose to own it and then decide to bin it. Then you pounce!!
Personally I think you should go for the former. Long time dead and all that, get it done as soon as you see the right car. Over the years of onwership, a couple of grand here and there for seasonal price fluctuations won't kill you. Just make you you sell in the summer too.
Going to go against the grain here and say please dont buy on a budget. Whilst not horrifyingly expensive to run, if you buy the cheapest/under book price, its possibly a car that has had hard life.
There are a multitude of documented niggles on here, some of which can end up expensive.
My advice would be to increase your budget to include a major parts warranty and use a good Indie ( at least two on here) for servicing costs.
It is possible, but a cheap "top end car" rarely is just that.
Agree with the others, mid summer is just not the right time to buy a cheap roadster. I still pine for mine when the suns out.
Prove me wrong and good luck

My shopping advice would be to buy ether from a AM dealer or if you buy one private make sure you have it checked out at AM. A 140 point check will show any problems and it will only cost you £250-00
based on my recent experience I would now only ever buy an Aston from a main dealer or from a private seller if the car has a premium warranty on it.
Cheap will cost you more in the long run.

From a newbie's perspective, I think this is solid advice. It's certainly the way I'm heading when I purchase mine. based on my recent experience I would now only ever buy an Aston from a main dealer or from a private seller if the car has a premium warranty on it.

I disagree about the validity of the 140 point check. It's not very useful. I would take the car to an indy and have someone like Rick at DMS or Mike at Bamford Rose have a good hard poke around.based on my recent experience I would now only ever buy an Aston from a main dealer or from a private seller if the car has a premium warranty on it.

I say this because my old V8 passed several of these 140 point checks but still needed a new fuel tank and an exhaust catalyst fitted. Sure - they were covered by the warranty but it was a lot of faff.

Johnny Boy.What are the ramifications of NOT having the test ??
Does it invalidate anything, or is it purely for personal satisfaction.
My original warranty expires next March (I think Mikey K's is this September), so would be useful to be pre-warned.

+1 I bought from a main dealer in the SW.I had a 17 point snag list that I came up with AFTER their checks
1 year on I find they did not configure the tracker correctly
Caveat emptorium - from where ever you buy it and don't assume a dealer will put you before their profit
Learn the product, do your research and view lots of cars
BTW when looking at roadsters partially open the roof and look for wear in the inside of the roof at the ends of the middle support bar. I found very few that didn't have it!

Ah, I'm talking about buying a previously owned car. In the situation you are in there are two choicesWhat are the ramifications of NOT having the test ??

(1) Get a 140 point check and take out an extended warranty
Or
(2) Don't get a warranty
The dealer will tell you that the check is mandatory. Indeed it is - so tell the dealer you will not pay for it. During the servicing by the dealer they cover most of these checks anyway. I never paid for the 140 point check on my V8 - I kept that under warranty.
The V12 - I'm probably going to get Mike at Bamford Rose to turn it into a stealth monster. Get 570bhp or so...
No idea of your budget but mine has just gone up for sales as the cheapest 4.7 in the UK

I am certain I will buy a roadster eventually. In a couple of years 4.7 may be affordable on my meagre budget. Bought an 2007 XKR (150) 4.2 convertible in the meantime and it is very good. Looks a bit similar and has some grunt, perfect for heading down to Italian lakes next month. Car 19000 miles and £40K less than new, affordable luxury just not as nice a badge.
