January this year took delivery of my truly fantastic V8V. My local dealer Broughtons was spot on in every respect. I have spent many happy hours in the garage pampering this amazing car . We have done the tour of north west Scotland and recently been to Le Mans. Every mile has been a joy, I cannot fault it. As I write she is 5 months and a few weeks old.

Problem I have had 2 test drives in the V8S, Oh dear it is something else again. I did a bit of research and after very little pressure from my dealer have ordered one. Fine you may ask. This time out of abject fear I did not tell my lovely wife! What I was thinking I do not know. She has gone truly mad, left me a fearsome letter and stormed off making all sorts of threats. She reckons that that I am in the grip of greed and lust. I have explained that I believe that the deal is a good one, to no avail. I have offered to take her on holiday for her birthday in her car so that we can take the dog!

Please can I have some honest thoughts. The S will be here in 10 days. One thing I forgot to mention , I love my wife to bits!

Oh dear.

A dull practical suggestion. Take the car and then ask the dealer to sell it for you on SOR - don't register it in your name.

Two - bribery? Cashmere, silk, diamonds all can have positive effects.

Good luck

If your wife feels the same about you, this should prove to be a storm in a teacup, with the "communicate" (both ways, a 'fearsome letter' doesn't count) lesson thrown in.

I'm going through the same thing but was a little more proactive with the LSB.
She actually suggested the move sooner rather than later.

Good luck with the passification!
BTW did you order a roadster with light weight seats? wink

For Christ's sake Rob.

There is only one thing you can now do to save the situation. Cancel the order immediately before its too late.

Replace with DBS Volante.

You are in enough trouble as it is so you may as well go down (fnarr fnarr) fighting, plus it will accommodate the dog.

Di

Edited to say. "Admit the greed, share the lust" She will thank you for it.

I had the same problem once when I changed a Range Rover. However when SHMBO discovered it had sat-nav so that we then had no more "friction" in the car on a journey over her less than perfect map reading everything was fine, phew! You just need to find an angle to promote or justify it.
Good luck.

If you are seriously asking for relationship advice on a car web forum, then ... I kinda' feel sorry for your wife.

Oh Rob, you two seemed like such a happy couple at Le Mans as well!

When I do something like this, (generally a watch or colossal car bill) I usually say I didn't mention it because it was so stupid that I was embarassed by it. Then do the big doe eyes... smile

Not sugesting women are mercenary (not with Di around anyway) but a thoughful pressie should do the trick... maybe give her your old Vantage, you don't need it anymore!

Highly unlikely you'll be that lucky, although perhaps when she see's / drives the V8S her passion will rise again!! wobble

What threats has she made?

Tell her to get a grip. It's a car and you can afford it. What else would she use the money for?

Is it any less greedy to want to keep a V8S sized suitcase of money in the bank? Or was she proposing you give it to charity?

As for lust, tell her not to worry as that soon wears off when threats are issued.

The worst she can genuinely accuse you of is poor communication. And she's just matched you on that.

biggrin

I had a very similar problem, took the Vantage roadster in for its first service in October, 3 days later dropped the N420 into the garage and never told her anything.

Until she asked why had I bought flowers for her this caused more grief when I explained that the flowers were included as a gift from HMW and indirectly I had bought them.

Did not wash and never forgiven, now complains about the new sports seats not being heated like the "old" ones.

You cannot win them all but you only live once so enjoy.

P.S I will be at Hever Sunday anyone with a Quicksilver Sports exhaust that I can listen too (she will never know)
