Went to Lynton for the night yesterday (belated wedding anniversary night away), stopped in Frome for morning coffee at 10.15. Came back to the car and someone had hit my 9 on the rear nearside wing/bumper frown

A car driven by a chap at least 85 had tried to pull into the parking space behind mine and instead of going past and reverse parallel parking he tried to nip in the gap. Scratches down mine with blue paint and coresponding scratches on his rear where it touched. No witnesses (despite 100's of people milling around) and he denies it banghead

Serious question - where is the best place to get this repaired/painted? I live near Cirencester so Works Service? Broughtons? Chiltern Heritage Centre? I know the insurance will deal but I need to make sure it is a proper place for AM's

Beer time methinks.

Happy Fathers Day cry

Sorry to hear that mate.

Broughtons use these guy's as there AM approved paint shop; http://www.autoshopaccidentrepairstroud.co.uk/

They are over in Stroud. I have used them and I was very please with the results.
It would be cheaper if you contact them yourself instead of going through Broughtons.

Worth getting a quote from spraytech in Cirencester too, haven't been there for a few years but they used to be good.

Could this be classified as a hit and run accident? If you have the old fart's registration number the police might agree to paying him a visit and take a few paint samples.

The police are generally uninterested even if details are not exchanged provided no-one is hurt.

Sorry to hear this. I find it absolutely deplorable that the police is not at all interested to pursue the culprit. Damaging somebody else's property is as bad as theft in my book. Why is the police not there to protect the very people that pay the taxes that keep them going ?. In every other civilised country this would be pursued and there would be hefty fines for leaving the scene of an accident on top of it ensuring that these things don't happen.

Under the data protection act (bullst) you do not have access to the images - I tried when my premises was damaged.

As JohnG notes, the police will not seek these images anyway as nobody was hurt.

It is extremely annoying, and I can almost feel your frustration coming out of the page. Now you will be uber-careful about where you park your car.

To add insult to injury, if you claim on your insurance it will be listed as an 'at fault' claim as no culprit has been identified frown

Surely pictures of the damage on both cars reveals everything? And given where the damage occurred and the nature of the space it must have been him.

Colleague of mine had a hit and run accident in central London, where someone came through the lights on red, and demolished front right of his V12V. Lots of witnesses, registration, description of driver, all stories from witnesses identical. Police - "not attending as no injury, no we wont take up the hit and run, call your insurer, and please move your car it's blocking the road." Great. As it happens the insurer took it up, found the driver, matched the details with the witnesses, and got his insurer to pay out given the evidence against him. Still no criminal prosecution though.

You may not actually need the cctv footage, sometimes the mere threat of it is enough. It worked for me when the (now ex) accountant "forgot" to deposit some cash takings in the hole in the wall. Strangley the mention of cctv was enough to get her to pay back the sum.
Could be enough to get them to confess and stump up the readies?

Sorry to hear this, once had a similar incident parked in a Merc garage, an old disabled chap in a Rover opened his door so hard into mine and then leaned even harder on it in order to get out of his car, left a large scrape and huge dent in my 911's door - all witnessed by somebody, but by the time I found the damage he was gone, I was livid furious

Sincerely hope you get recompense in this case, fingers crossed.

If oblio has blue paint on his car that matches the old chaps paint, I would have thought an insurance company would have access to companies that can easily prove it is indeed the paint from the old chaps car and therefor his fault.

They may not want to go to the trouble of course. Correct me if i am wrong, but I thought a lot of policies have solicitors cover to persue this sort of thing?

In the world you and I live in that is a perfectly reasonable hypothesis Andy.

In the insurance world, however, a cost / benefit analysis will be undertaken and if there is the possibility that the Insurer will not be able to recover its substantial expert / solicitor costs then it will not proceed.

There is no admission of guilt here.

I would be surprised if there were CCTV images - Frome isn't exactly a hotbed of criminal activity - bit of a posh hippy town is the impression I formed from the number of visits I've made over the last few years.

O/P - sorry to hear about your situation, this is what insurance is for - if you have the reg your company will do their best to recover their loss. Your P+J will soon be back to rude health I am sure.

That's the thing: we are!

My wife holds a blue badge due to her having MS so we are 'lucky' to be able to park in spaces which are larger than most. In this case it was another blue badge holder that hit the car rolleyes
