Can anyone enlighten me on these noises?
Discussion
OK, here's a challenge in onomatopoeia. I have two noises from my V8V that are concerning me. The first is a low, drawn-out groan when I'm manoeuvring slowly with the steering turned slightly right or left. The second I can only hear on very smooth roads (i.e. low ambient noise) at about 50mph, a kind of whomma, whomma, whomma, whomma, at the same frequency as the car speed (regardless of gear). Need I worry about either? I've a few months left of my warranty so if they're a sign of impending doom, I'd rather get them sorted soon.

I wouldn't take any chances. Get it round to an Aston dealer asap ask them to have a listen and get it documented. That way if they go "sir I can't hear what you're talking about, it's probably nothing" you can probably still get it resolved after the warranty has ended.
I managed to get a wheel bearing changed on that basis after it'd expired (botht the bearing and the warranty)

Also, check the tires for any nails or screws as this can also cause speed-related sounds like you described.
And while we're on the subject of identifying noises: what is that low, winding-up noise that our cars make when you first start it with a cold engine?
On a V8 I believe it's the dry sump pump...And while we're on the subject of identifying noises: what is that low, winding-up noise that our cars make when you first start it with a cold engine?

Thank god, I thought that was just mine and was trying to ignore it.And while we're on the subject of identifying noises: what is that low, winding-up noise that our cars make when you first start it with a cold engine?

First is probably just the power steering pump overcoming the friction of the tyres, but it may need the fluid topping up? Second could be tyre related, lump (carbuncle) or similar? Or worse case is a wheel bearing...But I'm a geologist not a mechanic so get them checked out!
We had a noise like the second one you describe on a Merc we had. It was diagnosed (by an MOT inspector!) as an irregular front tyre.
I can't remember what caused it to happen, but essentially the tyre wasn't exactly round across all its surface and was causing the low-frequency noise.
We throught it was a wheel bearing, and the dealer couldn't diagnose the probem either. But the more the tyre wore, the worse it got.
Cured it in the end though - traded it in for an Aston!
