i need some help

the starter button has been push right into the dash, i have managed to retrieve the chrome bevel, and the switch is fine so i can start it - but the plastic start button has disappeared in the dash somewhere, and i heard a metal clip ping down inside the dash too.

so it looks like i have to take off the piano black facia off so nothing gets broken - how easy is that??

so if i can this off - is it an easy re-assembly job to put it all back??

or should i leave well alone and let AM sort it??

any advice would be great as this is my first job to do tomorrow morning

Many thanks in advance

Nick, the panel has four clips (2 either side) but if it were me I wouldn't attempt it as even the instructions for Aston mechanics carries a warning that 'it's easy to damage'.

it would appear that i have to pull off the leather facia panels either side of the centre console - this reveals the 4 screws i assume

now nervous about pulling of the panel covering the air bag (left hand side) so is this all easy to do??

They are described as clips not screws (I still wouldn't attempt it)

No, that's not necessary according to the directions given for removing the panel.

Hi,

to take the panel off you just need 2 strips of plastic blades and just pry off the panel leveling it gently from each corner near the arrows on the picture in the previous post, easier that you could think.I have done it on my DB9 to change the panel.

Nick - I'm with Steve, I wouldn't touch it so I'm offering some divine intervention smile

3200GT I think it was who posted a bundle of AM docs up for people to grab.

One such doc was the AM Workshop Manual, containing a lot of diagrams and instructions regarding each part of the car.

Did you get one?? Do you want one??

No guarantees, but it is a veritable plethora of extremely useful info smile

just a word of warning unfortunately the manual does not always go into enough detail and this is a prime example, as the sat nav screen is required to be detached from the cover first and also there are a couple of different methods depending on which kit has been used, on some you need to raise the screen first and in the top left and right corners you need to separate the cover from the screen it is just clipped, the later kit has a spring wire which in this case you do not raise the screen first but just lift the lid slightly and detach the spring clip from each side, if not done correctly or attempting to remove the surround without detaching the lid first in many cases will damage the hinge on the surround which is a costly replacement, personally I would not use any tools as it will all come away with your fingers you just need to know where to pull, If you are contemplating doing some work yourself I can always offer advice as to the easiest way,

this is excellent advice - and with too little information can be a very dangerous thing - case in point, what i doing right now. (in the manual this is not covered at all)

so update - with some expert advice the cover is off and the button retrieved - looks like the two metal securing clips that secure the bevel to the fascia have disappeared - so i think it will all go back but may move about a little - looks like i either need to find the clips in the dash or replace??

but Rick - many thanks for your advice on the phone on a sunday!!

priceless!!

Nick no problem at all, I also may have some clips I will check on Monday and let you know, the manual's are good but they are not A B C in the removal or replacement of items and also do not differentiate between model changes, They should be used as a guide rather than explicit instructions,
