Good and bad weekend

Drove up to Rutland on nice empty roads on Saturday in the V8V
Came back down Sunday on nice empty roads Apart that is from the queue formed by the thieving bs at the Dartford Bridge
Monday morning found a completely flat rear tyre, with a screw in the centre of the tread
Fortunately both rear tyres were due for changing before too long so thought I'd get them both done.
Monday later morning managed to locate two AM9 spec tyres locally and on offer
took wheels to Chessington at Tonbridge and had them fitted. Good price, didn't knacker the wheels
However when collecting them the fitter pointed out that the inside of one of the rims had a crack in it
Looking at it I'm amazed the tyre/wheel actually holds air in it as you can get a finger nail in the crack! It's got to be pothole damage from some of the chasms that mascarade as roads round here.
Anyone know if such things can be repaired from damage like that? Anyone had one done? I'll probably give Lepsons a ring in a bit and see what they say.
Is there an annual quota for smilies? I might've used mine up

I reckon there are hundreds of people driving around on damaged/cracked rims who don't even know it.
I was part of the BMW debacle where virtually every car of my model 335i on run flats had this problem. I took up the issue with BMW to be told tough.
The only way I found out was when, like you I had a puncture. The dealer rang me to say that both rear rims had cracked. I argued and argued. One idiot even told me it was because German cars aren't designed for British roads. It was pot holes so hard luck.
That little episode cost me £1,500 for two new wheels and 1 tyre on a car a few months old.
Heaven only knows how many of us don't find out until we get a puncture or even worse.
It seems English road condition is a great get out clause for manufacturers.
I would say though, that no way would I risk driving with it had I known.

Im sorry to hear that. After speaking to a tyre fitter they are seeing more cracked rims than ever due to the poor conditions of the roads and the more brittle nature of wheels due to the materials and casting processes used. You would hope that the wheels on the Astons would be towards the better end!....
If it was me I wouldn't get a cracked wheel welded and get a replacement instead - just think of the rpm of the wheel and the consequences if the weld failed. But I do know others that have had it done with no issues.
