Why was Bonhams Lot 347 1985 V8 Vantage with 66,000 miles and in my opinion a lovely blue and cream colour scheme only fetch £36,700.
I was not at the auction but looking at the photos and spec. it seems a very cheap car to me.

So where is the rub was there something wrong with the car or did it just suffer from being the last car to be auctioned which can very often be the bargain of the day as most have either spent their money or gone home.

I also see that the engine number was V/580/2437/V does this denote that it is the extra power device or just standard.

Any way from where I am sitting I think who ever bought it has a lovely cheap car, but what do you guys out there think.

Who knows? Possibly for the same reason that a childs pedal car went for 15k, but a lovely (and full size) Virage Volante went for just £21k. And why a DB5 in need of a dull restoration went for more then twice that of some lovely DB4's.

It never makes any sense. As for the car. I had a look at it and it wasnt perfect. Presentable yes, but not perfect and people at this austion do want their cars to look the part- hence why the more interesting but worse condition DBS V8 (lot 302) made just £28k, whilst the cleaner (but not original) DBS V8 lot 329 went for more then £70k- an auction record for a DBS V8, I believe.

And the DBS went for more then £100k, with much made about iot being in the same colour scheme as the DBS used in the Bond film. No connextion with the film, just the same colour scheme.

Thanks williamp for the heads up it sounds like a crazy auction, I had a look at the auction results and I think that there was a few bargains amongst the silly priced lots.

Sorry could not help but to be nosey as you sounded like an AM owner, I think your DBSV8 looks the business. I have a big soft spot for those cars my father owned a red 1973 single head light fuel injected V8 manual and I always loved watching the persuaders. Lovely car and probably a very sound investment unlike mine which has halved in value over the time I have owned it. Is yours still on fuel injection or was it converted to carbs?

The auction never fails to amaze. I've been going for 4 years now. Some cars make crazy money while other leave you reaching for your purse! There was some amazing cars this year. Who would have thought the Radford would have made nearly £400,000!!!

This is a really crazy and confusing auction, you cannot take the results and base any credible valuations on them, you will be in danger of losing a lot of money!
