Sorry if this is an really obvious and much mulled over question but I didn't even know there WAS a change in engines up until half an hour ago!

So what's the overall feeling here? I'm guessing the 4.7 is later and therefore more expensive, I have a budget of around £45k tops, ( less would be nice! ), I've been mulling over '06 cars from main dealers, it seems viable from what I've read on the forum... then I spotted a 4.7 thread!

Thanks in advance again!

4.7 was introduced in 2008. There is a aftermarket approved upgrade for 4.3 to 4.7 though.

Got it, thanks. In that case I'm strictly a potential 4.3 owner!

Out of interest is there a lot of difference between the models? I'm guessing this was part of a revamp, overall niggle sorting revision.

You won't find a 4.7 with that budget sadly.
But the 4.3 is fine and with 45k you will have a fair choice. A 07 model would be better, it has the latest seats and cool lights on the door handles smile

Cosmetic tweaks I believe.

The 4.3 sounds better than the 4.7 IMHO. The Sports Pack is a good thing on either model.

4.3 is the best sounding on standard exhausts - with Fuse22 out obviously.
Change of seats etc on the 2007 model. You can spot them on photos as they have stitching down the centre of the seat squab.
4.3 is regarded as lacking in power and torque - but its all relative. Not actually slow, needs reving so doesn't always feel as if its that fast - until you check the speedo! They definatley shift.

Sorry to interrupt the Vantage talk chaps but is OP aware that for that kind of money an early DB9 is not totally out of the question.

Just a thought smile

Agree with Jockman.......for 45k you could own a proper Aston with a v12 up front smile

A 'proper' Aston would have a straight 6 up front tongue out

We know the budget to spend but is the OP an older gentleman looking for a vehicle suitable for those of more advanced years?

Back on topic - you can find some lovely 4.3 V8s out there. Some lucky sod is driving my old one. I hope he or she is appreciating it :-)

'Older gentleman'... I love it! Actually I suppose there's some truth in that, I'm old enough to have had enough of getting in and out of various Elises's over the past 11 years and I am looking for something a little less raw, ( a LOT less actually! ).

The DB9's an interesting thought although I'd guess that the V12 comes increased running costs, not sure I want the bills...

Others can comment on costs of servicing etc for V12 vs V8 but you'd be well advised to accept the following statement: your petrol consumption will be horrific if you drive the car in a spirited manner. I think I averaged about 14-16mpg in my 4.3 V8 and after about 800 miles in a V12 I think I'm managing about 10-12mpg.

So if you want a car more suited to a refined older gentleman then an early DB9 is a splendid option. Don't forget your driving gloves and car coat.

Question is though, would he still have enough funds left for the Sanatogen, pipe tobacco and Damart slippers?

MY09 cars first deliverd 01/09/08 (one was mine)
Quite a few changes to the 4.7 cars - for me the ponies/talks and the console did it for me
