My DB9 is now looking “as new” after some excellent detailing work (pics to follow) and I’m considering getting as personal plate. After all, a lady shouldn’t have to reveal her age smile

What’s the consensus, are personal plates naff or not ?

I’m not talking about “non standard” fonts, character spacing etc, really just thinking about something innocuous with an “AML” suffix.

As long as it isn't spaced illegally, or in a stupid font, I think they look fine. Wouldn't have a car without one.

as above - if not messed about with I think they are fine

actually would be a lot easier just to buy one for a few hundred quid with your first vehicle and keep it forever ..like many, Ive got a couple Ive had for many years that just go on whatever cars I have at the time

I don't think AML ones are that bad...

... but 007 ones are awful - would have to be a complete bell end to put one of those on.

Agree with all comments above. The Aston is a timeless design; most of my colleagues at work think mine is brand new even though it is 5 years old. Obviously I've said nothing to alter their opinions wink

But please no 007 plate...

I'm for a personal plate, most looking good on prestige cars. When i was selling my 10 year old Porsche 993 some bloke phoned me asking what the running costs would be for doing 25k miles a year in it.
When i pointed out it was a 10 year old car he was utterly amazed as he thought it was only 2 years old as the plate was hiding the car's age!!
He didn't buy it lol.

I have 'V12' and my ititals, can't see why that would exicte your wrath Michael. Does anything not I wonder..?

Fortunately the V12 prefix plates are cheap from DVLA, like £400 odd quid Limited market I suppose as not many V12s out there. If you want a V8 prefix or a suffix such as AML or anything that the DVLA can work out that it's worth money, then expect to pay through the nose. At that point, I'd rather spend the money on something else.

When Kay picked me up from the station in Derby, the DMS plate made the car very easy to spot!

I saw A8TON on a UK Vanquish in Monaco a few weeks ago.

I quite like personal plates, whether they're based on owner's name, make or model of car, or those with comedy value... even the 007 on Astons smile

That said, my DB7 still has the personal plate with a previous owner's initials... I'm occasionally tempted to get my own but not taken the plunge yet!

Had the same worries as you Kent but decided to go for it when a suitable one cropped up. Pleased I did, wouldn't spend too much on it though, rather throw the money into the budget for the next car. Naff or not depends more on the number than the principle. Eg B16 DYK probably(!) isn't cool, whereas A5 TON, as noted above, probably is. Just make sure whoever fits the plates gets them perfectly centred and level especially if drilled. Nothing worse than a wonky plate!

I quite fancy one beginning AM08 xxx luckily mines an 08 car. Might even be able to sell the plate I've got on it to someone with a sporty vauxhall as it starts VX08

I always thought personal plates were naff until I bought my first Aston. I don't know why the Aston made the difference but there you go! It's not too obvious unless you know the V8V didn't exist in 2003, and it's been on all 3 now.

Used to be MI6 SPY running around on a Vanquish when they first came out ...kinda cheesy but cool at the same time when Aston were back in the Brosnan bonds and BMW were out ...
