Hi guys I have recently brought a silver db9 and would like to repaint the car the new burnt orange colour.

What are your views on resale value and would it put you off from buying it?

Cheers

Rich

Why not get it wrapped. Would be cheaper and can always take it off and re sell it as a silver one.

Have a look here http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

Would agree with that... It would probably put me off buying it - I would always assume theer was another reason for having done so, other than just fancied a change of colour.

I would also think that the colour you mention is very marmite - possibly allienating lots of future buyers.

^^^ This.

You will severly limit your market in orange, plus the cost of a paint job would be what, £4-5k ish? A good wrap will be £1500-1800, and last several years. And no drop in resale! Get on with calling the experts...

Oh, and an orange car will require gloss black wheels... It's the law.

I own a top end body shop so cost if paint is not an issue, I know with some cars if you change the colour it can put buyers off.

I was considering doing it the colour of the new model recently posted on the news thread.

Cheers for the opions

It's not just the cost of the original paint, it the cost of changing it back as well wink

I assume you mean the orange of the Virage... Very cool colour, but I wouldn't want it on a DB9 and I have a non-grey/silver/black Aston so re-sale wasn;t my first thought!

Personally I think it would look good, but if your worried about resale then I wouldn't go for it.

Is this the colour you mean?

Don't forget the rare person looking to buy an orange car is not going to be too happy to hear it is a Silver one sprayed Orange. It raises all sorts of questions about how far did they strip it back, who did it, what is the quailty, can I match it if I need touch up etc

I'd love that Orange Virage Volante smile
I like metallic orange cars
I'd never by a silver one sprayed that colour though frown

Are you in the motor trade Michael? I like your % figures for how much any modification will damage a cars value but are they based on anything in particular?

You own a body shop, get it done!! You only live once

I'm with the "don't" crowd.

Would be better from all angles (apart from lead time) if you simply traded what you have for the colour you want.

Also...even though own a spray shop, your costs (labour, profit, margin on materials etc) are still a cost to you (you could be doing someone else's while your jaffaing yours).

Forgetting the colour for a moment - I'd be very dubious about buying a resprayed car. I'd wonder what was trying to be hidden. Even if it was one Aston Martin silver to another.

So it would not affect my view on price - I would just walk away.

Beyond that - orange is a pretty unusual colour for an Aston Martin so I think you'd find it harder to sell versus one of the silvers etc.

But if you like it then hey, who cares what I think, life is short - knock yourself out and enjoy it!

That is the colour i'm refering to

i'm am slightly put off changing the colour now as it looks as if the car will have less value / resale ease.

i do think the colour has a great wow factor, as my sagaris has

I'd say wrap it too, then you can always put it back to standard.

But if you do get it sprayed, just be sure to take photos at every stage of the stripdown to show the extent of the job.

If you can show that it was fully stripped back to the shell, it shouldn't put anyone off who likes the colour.

nope not in the trade....but only a brain dead idiot wouldn't belive that repainting an Aston Martin orange wouldn't have a huge effect on the resale value of the car......it would probably make the car unselable ! so IMHO 25% was a reasonable figurea also the respray would cost 5k upwards......if the OP really wants to have his car in Orange then having it wrapped is a great option.....its costs 2k and can be removed at anytime.

The OP asked if we felt it would have any effect on the resale value or would it put you off buying the car.....i bet you 90% of forum members here wouldn't touch a repainted Aston with a barge pole.......an the other 10% are Germans smileand they like weird stuff

What is wrong with finance?

Or is that a topic I shouldn't start on here?

All the others I agree with.
