When opening the boot, either using the little metal button or the key fob, the boot opens a fraction. I then need to push my fingers under the lip to open the boot. Over time, the boot, bumper, or both are bound to get marked doing this.
Has anyone got another technique which doesn't involve potentially scratching the paintwork? Or am I being dense!

Oh dear, so you didnt get the upgrade whereby the boot raises slowly to pre-programmed orchestral music, reaching a crescendo when fully open and complimented by lasers and an exodus of doves!!! wink

Just push button with thumb whilst holding lip betwixt fingers and gently pull up. Like most things Aston there is a knack, its just finding it.

Shouldn't damage paint at all.

Edited to say boot lip not your facial ones .biggrin

Your really over thinking this.

I just grab the bottom and pull up (mine still looks brands new without any scuffs/scratches)

Do you know, I'm pleased it's not just me...I also wondered the same thing.

I have developed the technique of opening it with the fob then pushing the lid up with the palm of my hand thereby avoiding fingernails near the paintwork.

Of course, it also helps if you stand on one leg and hum the opening bars of 'In the hall of the mountain king' whilst doing it...

I used to press the ball bearing and lift until the mechanism died.
I got in to the habit of using the fob button to do it until I got it fixed under warranty.
I also have a bit of PPF along the top of the bumper to protect it.

Have you tried pressing the button on the fob twice quickly. Took me a few days to figure that one out

You're kidding me!? The boot actually opens if you click the button twice?

I so feel stupid for not knowing that.

It was one of the things on my list of niggles when I first bought the car. Didnt figure it out that quickly! Not exactly an obvious feature wink

Well no... 6 months and 5k miles later I find out! (Although it must be said I doubt I have ever tried it before now)

I tried to, just I picked up the car on a date that was inconvenient with my GF so I didn't get much time alone with the manual!

It's also just not something that would be of regular use to me. I'm not sure how often I put stuff in the boot when I've got a spare hand for the key, I think typically I drop stuff into the drivers seat before going to put the rest in the boot.

Am I the only soft DB9 driver who went out in the rain at 11.00 last night to see if this procedure worked on my car ??

For the record, no it does not. Nor does it need to smile

I didn't even go downstairs, indoors to my garage to see if it worked on my Vantage!

I can just about get the car in the garage, but I would be unable to exit the car frown

Driveway for me, I'm afraid.

Shmee, do you see that Ferrari forum we were on yesterday - starting to kick off a bit with each other now.

A bit too many egos for me. One poster even questioned the reliability of our Astons by hoping that the RAC guy liked us.

I couldn't be bothered correcting him smile

I did indeed see, I'm reading that thread closely because it always amuses me how these things go in the F/M/L&B Forum. I spend a lot of time posting over there as a lot of my 'work' is to do with what they get up to (car journalism stuff).

I'm not entirely sure how a 1yr old V8V compares to a 5yr old F430, but I suspect the F is more likely to be stopped at the side of the road...
