Hi,

I'm trying to pair iPhone 4 (latest iOS update) with my 2006 DB9 but every time I try to do so (via voice commands) I get "pairing failed" message. Everything is set up properly on my phone (pairing it with no problems with my BMW 5 series as well). The car's Bluetooth light is blinking as well so it seems to be on. Is this common? There must be a solution as previous owner had the car paired with iPhone 4 but tells me he doesn't remember how he did it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Tom

I have a 07 model.
I have tried pairing my iPhone 3 and 4 with little success and only very few of the functions work.

I was initially very disappointed.
This is not really AMs fault – Apparently there are loads of differing Bluetooth formats, which are constantly evolving – so because on our model the software can’t be updated you have to live with it – our technology is obsolete!!

However, there are independents that can remedy the issue (there is a thread on here somewhere) but I couldn’t warrant paying the 5 or £600 pounds so ‘live with it’

It's that bit that IS AM's fault. The electronics on the Vantage were a few years' behind the times when the car was first released, and they're only just starting to catch up. I guess some will cite that they were hamstrung by the Ford links, but I don't see it myself...

I *think* the earlier cars might have had a different version of the Motorola bluetooth unit, so you might struggle. But if the previous owner paired his then it should work. Have you checked which version of iOS he has?

It might be worth trying different combinations of turning the devices on (e.g. have the phone in discovery mode before you activate the car's bluetooth; turn the car's on before the phone etc etc). It might make a difference.

Good lad Murph, thought you'd be along soon.

Please remember OP has a DB9, not a Vantage smile

Early Aston's don't support all the latest Bluetooth extensions.
Make sure you have SAP (Sim Access Profile) turned off in the bluetooth settings on the phone. This option is sometimes called "Enable Remote Sim Access" or such like - depends on your phone's interface.

Yes, the same.

Can't seem to find where to do it (if at all possible).

When Aston went to bluetooth they thought 'lets go with the biggest around' (like you do) so used the motorola unit. Turns out motorola bluetooth units are (maybe were, give them a chance) crap. From 08my they have their own in-house unit which is WAY better. Just can't be retrofitted to easily, or cheaply!
