I’d just like to extend a warm word for the guys at Aston Martin this week.

Through necessity and a little treat to myself, I had decided to take the V12V to Newport Pagnall for its first service. This was done by David Webb and the team who not only went through the service but also evaluated a few “issues” that I had with the vehicle and corrected them where needed. Also, I was given the tour of the Works Service, and shown at all the modern and heritigae Astons being worked on. Some lovely DB2’s, 5’s and 6’s in there!

The service and time commitment to me was nothing less than first class. They even cleaned and valeted the car before giving it back to me and totally recommend them should you wish to not go down the Independent servicing route.

Next, while my car was in for the 4 hour service, I was taken by Neville from the Events Team and taken on the PDC course at Millbrook.

For any of you considering, this is a seriously good fun day out. I was given the V12V for the day. The order of business was as follows:-

• Spacial awareness of the car
• City Circuit Handling Track
• Emergency Braking Track for wet/icy conditions
• Mile Straight Track (170mph really focusses your mind when you start to run out of track
at that speed)
• 100-0mph emergency brake test in less than 25m (yes…25m!)
• 100-0mph emergency brake test with no hands on the wheel!
• DCS and skid control
• Constant speed driving on the 2 mile bowl (130mph with throttle steering – i.e. no hands)
• The Outer Handing Circuit – learning to position/brake/accerlate the vehcle through turns,
bends and a little gradient at speed (50 to 70mph).
• The Alpine/Hill Circuit which is just phenominal in that car!

All-in-all, you are trained on the hidden technology within that car, its responsiveness and stability in all conditions/speeds and perhaps more importantly, you will definitely come out of learning to be a better driver. Many thanks to Nevellie for his one to one tuition and guidence.

Heartily recommeded to all!

G

Guycord, might I be so bold as to ask for a flavour of the pricing for such an event ??

It has made me drool a bit lick

£1164.

I had works service work on my V8V while I did the PDC and can thoroughly recommend both.

i just had my 1st service at WS. I shan't be going anywhere else from now on.

I love the little WS mints!

Fantastic service as you would expect.

For me it's another great thing about owning an Aston Martin.

It cost less than £1000 and it began with a 9.

As the others I had mine 1st serviced there as well recently just prior to the V12 meet.Service was excellant and mini tour of the works was of great.
Out of interest did The Pits get new security tags in that very competative price, if I may be so bold.

What are the old security tags? Sorry no idea what they are or do 2010 cars already have that done?

Sorry Pits,to make myself clear I'm on about the Cat5 ID tags, otherwise known as biscuits. My V12 is March 10 so only
just had the first service but was told I needed new tags at each yearly interval at £139.44 a set.Euro watch have
advised me to renew them yearly also so I was just curious to know if they were included in your service at a price
that began with a 9 presumably including vat?
I find them a pain to cart about and was thinking of looking at other options if available.

£139 biscuits?! Whatever new way to fleece people will the insurance companies come up with next?!

My car was first reg'd June '10 so presumably haven't run out yet. Equally, it would suggest that my bill does not include biscuits, whatever they are. Still not sure what I should be looking for!

I have used AM Works Service on and off for around 10 years. The last service of my '89 Vantage Volante was £1,592.09 including MOT and making and fitting a new bespoke British Motor Show Plaque (my car was the 1988 Motor show car and had its comemorative plaque removed when its wood was restored a few years ago).

Compared to some other costs over the years at other places, I think that is damned good value and I presume will protect the value of my car in the future. They are also knowledgable people who make time to talk to the person paying the bill. You pays your money...

I'll second the recommendation.

I've done the PDC twice, and agree that it is an absolutely fantastic day. Both times, I have come away with a huge grin which lasted a week.

The second time, I managed to get the car into the air on the hump on the alpine circuit. Brilliant!!

That sounds like a fantastic day! I have promised myself that the DB9s next service will be at WS as I have never been there.

What sort of lead time did you need to book? Does the PDC thing come as a package with the service? Can you drive a DBS over a V12 Vantage??

Shame it's 12 months away smile

Got my PDC booked for July, just having problems finding a decent hotel in the area.

Any recommendations.

They have a few different modern models to choose from. They do encourage you to do the course in the same model that you own. In my case, I did the course in a DB9 both times.

If you contact Aston, they will probably send you a DVD about the course. The phone number is at the bottom of this page http://www.astonmartindrivingexperiences.com/

Aston also organise trackdays at Silverstone and Brands Hatch. I've done the day at Silverstone, and it was fantastic.

The AMOC trackday at Goodwood is a cracking day out also - and much cheaper than the Aston days.

Why not get your phone set up instead? More convenient, and no need to renew the tags ...

Yup, so long as you have the appropriate phone.

Am I reading Ed correctly here - he is being told he needs new tracker tags, each and every year, and he has to pay for this ???

I cannot believe this frown

You got it Jockman just serviced and new tags on the bill apparently @£139.44 if my memory serves me right.
Just this week had my email from Eurowatch regarding renewal and again being told to speak with my AM dealer to
purchase new tags,so will be ringing them tomorrow to get the bottom line.
Don't fancy DrCarrera's kind suggestion on pairing to my mobile as theres more chance of getting me through a medium
than me remembering to turn the mobile on according to the wife...
