When reversing out of the garage I yet again stalled the car! Nothing new there but this time there was a metallic clunk which on re start appeared again but disappeared on tickover. Took the car for a drive as I am off to Europe on Monday in it! Came back nothing untoward but decided to checkover the exhaust . This seemed solid but checking the exhaust chrome trim pieces that come through the bumper the drivers side one is not as rigid as the passenger side and seems to have a broken bracket. I am not mechanically minded but these just look cosmetic. Should I be concerned or just get it sorted when I get back?

Only a guess but had you cleaned the car, or had the car been out in the wet, prior to parking it in the garage? Sometimes the brakes lock up if left wet overnight which would account for both the stall and the clunk.

I had moved before stalling when the metallic noise appeared. Sure it was the one of the brackets holding the exhaust trim. Just need clarification that this trim is cosmetic and not attached to the exhaust or cause any problems Bu not being secure on a long journey

They are bolted in to the bumper from the "inside".
If it is lose enough I guess it could knock on the exhaust.
