New V8V owner, thanks for the help guys!
Discussion
Just put a deposit put down on a lovely '06 V8V and I wanted to introduce myself and say a big thanks to you guys.
Decided a while back I wanted something a bit more modern to replace my 993. Took my £40k budget and spent a month or so driving various flavours of 997. Certainly more modern than the 993 but just no... don't know, character, maybe?? Everytime I got back in the 993 to drive home it just confirmed that the modern Porsche didn't feel as special as my old air-cooled friend. Even tried a brand new Boxster Spyder as I loved the looks, drove beautifully, but a bit too impractical esp. the joke roof.
Aston Marton shaped lightbulb moment was sparked by a recent EVO article about cars to buy for zero depreciation. In amongest the usual suspects was an AM V8V. This was a car I adored the look of when it was launched and was all over the car mags. Confirmation came shortly after, a very shiny metalic grey one driving up the centre of Leamington Spa looking stunning and with a very subtle burbly exhaust.
So, selling the idea of stretching the budget to get an Aston Martin to the missus?? Easiest task in the world! Game on.
So, the research starts. I knew nothing about the Vantage, so several weeks of championship level lurking and learning on here. Have to say the AM section of PH is a far (far) friendler place than the Porsche bit. For all things 911 I've used 911uk over the years (hence the 4 posts in 6 yrs on PH!).
So armed with the collective PH knowledge, and a couple of telephone chats with Rick at DMS, I drove a few and immediatley felt that here was a car that was both modern & special. As others have said, it felt like a privilege just to be driving an Aston, let alone considering buying one! Smitten would be a good word.
Decided it had to be a bright silver one with dark red or black interior. Boringly traditional choice, but I've always loved silver cars and on the Vantage it shows off the gorgeous shape beautifully, esp. the creases down the side. It also exaggerates one of my favourite bits.. the coloured section in the rear lights.. (sad I know)
Found a good one at a main dealer, put a deposit down, then an even better one appeared at the same dealer a week later.. damn. Another visit to the dealer, deposit was swapped over and the car is now off in the bodyshop to fix a bit of corrosion around the door handles and a few other minor items. So far I have to say I'm impressed with the dealer, most of the niggles on the second car are due to it only just having arrived so had not been 100% prepared when I saw it.
Will post some pictures when I get it, but the spec. is..
'06 V8V in Titanium Silver + Cherry/Black interior, 28k miles, usual extras incl. sat-nav, premium sound, xenons, etc..
Anyway, a massive thank-you to you all who post up on the Aston Martin section. You all seem to be genuine, nice, helpfull people with the sarcasm level set just about right .
Looking forward to getting my hands on my first Aston Martin and I do plan to be far more active on here in the future, honest!
Cheers Stu

Bonjour Stu.
After only 5 months on the Forum, I've picked up a few unwritten Forum rules you should be aware of -
1. Never, ever mess with Lady Topaz - Di is the Queen of the AM Forum.
2. Always tell Tony Hall that Green is the best colour for an AM.
3. Under no circumstances mention poor people, Gap Finance, divorce or Scots to Michael Gould.
4. Worship Rick as if he is your wife.
5. Mikey K is an AM Encyclopedia - take time to read him.
6. Shmee is gone, no he's not, yes he is, maybe, whatever.
7. Quinny and Good Soil Pete start the friendliest threads.
8. Do NOT mention proms to George H (It's a personal thing).
9. For technical stuff, loop in Murph, Bogie, Yeti etc.
Everyone else, myself included, are normal fun-loving AM lovers with a lot of nouce about them
Other Members should feel free to add their own observations

Don't forget the pictures, that is the No 1 rule, even you should know that by now Jockman
I also believe that our willingness to use the full plethora of smilies available enables us to circumvent the harshness endemic to written forums. This is not the case in many of the other forums I pop onto.
Very true, get my prize in a week or so I hope
Don't worry, not under any illusions about it not depreciating, just helps justify a nice car if it losses a bit less than a new boring car..
My pleasure comes from using and enjoying cars like these rather than worrying too much about depreciation, etc.. long time dead and all that
Any other Astons owners in the Midlands?
Cheers Stu
PS: have got a couple of dealer pics of my 'prize'. I know this doesn't really count, but best I can do for now..
