AML - NEW UK SALES
Discussion
SORRY EVERYONE.
I MADE A HASH OF THAT. POSTED THE FIGURES THE WRONG WAY ROUND.
CORRECTION BELOW.
_______________
UK new car registration figures have now been published for September 2020.
Aston Martin
September 2019 = 200
September 2020 = 149
Jan to Sep 2019 = 1221
Jan to Sep 2020 = 642
Do you want to see figures for any other manufacturer?
We cannot find out individual model numbers until the DVLA publish their 3rd quarter 2020 figures. Usually takes them a couple of months!
There must be some DBXs in the September numbers, but of course the vast majority of AML sales are export. (These figures are UK only.)
Nick - Was the bargain PCP offer only during December 2019 ? If so, won't be reflected in any of these numbers.

The end of year UK new registration figures are now available online.
Not as good as 2019, but what an dreadful year for so many business sectors, and now motor dealers are closed once again.
Dec 2019 = 281
Dec 2020 = 89
Year 2019 = 1718
Year 2020 = 876
Year 2020
Ferrari = 985
Lotus = 171
McLaren = 346
Morgan = 178
Figures are here

It is an industry body, who state their source as the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
I am sure that SMMT must get their data directly from the DVLA. It used to include Aston Martin, but that stopped in I think 2018.
The DVLA do publish an even more detailed quarterly version on their own website (individual models), but there is always a long delay before that is available.
As we have often mentioned, the only worldwide figures come from AML and whereas the UK used to be their largest market, that is no longer the case, so looking at UK only figures may not be an indication of what is happening overall.
EDIT - Was December 2019 the month of the (£1,000 + 23x£1,000) Vantage deals? Obviously boosted the figures.

For those of you who like figures, this might be of interest.
The information goes all the way back into the Newport Pagnell era.
From 2007 onwards, the production figures are from AML.
Prior to that they are from the internet, so might not be accurate.
Would be grateful if anyone can help complete the missing, uncertain or wrong figures.
I was talking to someone today who mentioned that at the peak of the problem, AM had nearly 2k cars in car parks/airfields unsold worldwide, and that the number is now down to around 1k.
If that is correct, then ironically it could be argued that the lockdown has helped AM by helping reduce inventory whilst being forced to close/reduce factory output... Also, 2k parked up unsold is almost half a years production volume according to the numbers by Jon.

Reported by Autocar, are Lawrence Stroll's ambitious sales targets for Aston Martin.
'Chairman Lawrence Stroll believes Aston Martin can sell between 12,000 and 15,000 cars a year, once its model range is complete.'
DBX and its SUV derivatives = around 6000 to 7500
Mid-engined models ........... = around 3000 to 4000
Front-engined cars ...............= . about 5000
'The company’s sales in the UK halved during 2020, SMMT figures show, but its performance in other markets has been stronger.'

The corresponding figure for 2020 was 27.
How do they afford to keep all their sales staff employed? The Bristol dealer always has a ratio of about 3:1 for staff wandering around looking for things to do versus potential customers.
Better IT types then ma can link to it, but the annual report for 2020 here
