That'd be Annette

I have a sequential pair of 3 letter 1 number but they've been on the cars since1962 when they were owned by AML

No, nothing to do with James Bond.

Clue: Say AN 8 to yourself a few times.
The only one I could come up with was Shirley ANN Shepherd who was married to Charlie Watts ?

Getting closer now. clap
You have got the ANN, so just need to include the 8.
I did say it is subtle.
Nick Mason's wife Annette (Nettie).

Yes I was clearly overthinking Dewi’s subtle clue - he was also at their house last week !

Well done both.

When I saw the car, I thought what a lovely way of creating a name.

I guess your registrations David, were the original first marks allocated to the cars.

Agree. Don't got for anything James Bond related.

your car is already 'old' so don't worry about using an older plate. The car was not on sale in 1995 so most people will know it is not the genuine year.

it is very much personal taste and many (but not all) private plates can look naff.

The ones you mention are probably in the OK category.

V8_ _ _ would be the obvious choice, but perhaps a bit too obvious.

Six character dateless plates can look classy but can cost a bit more.

Useful thoughts especially around age of plate and 3 x 3 format.

So originally had looked at:
NO05 AMV
NO05 VTG
Useful to mention it is N400 #005/240

Also now found:
V83 AMV
Which I think could work too, albeit maybe not as well for the car, but better for being symmetrical and dateless.
This one could work as it’s a V8 4.3L

Costing a bit more yes, but can be retained on successive cars and may even retain value.

A friend bought what he refers to as a private registration. I had better not use the actual registration mark, but the jist of the story is as follows;

Purchased a new 2019 VW Polo and the dealer persuaded him to spend a few hundred more on a ridiculous registration mark.
CS10 ALD

Immediately his brand new car appeared to be 9 years old.
Only he knows that CS stands for Chris and his wife Sandra.
ALD are the first three letters of their surname.

Madness.
The men in white coats are expected at any moment, to take him away for his own safety.

I bought my plate 12 years ago and it’s the 4th vehicle it’s been on. My son and I like formula 1, quite cool driving it into Silverstone on the British gp weekend the few years I done it. Sometimes the plate gets more attention than the Aston!

I agree that as well as the actual letters and numbers, the overall look of the plate on the car is important.

My DB9 began MH07; not just old but clumsy-looking. I thought about a 600 plate to match the engine size but in the end went for a V12 prefix and letters from a private plate I'd had years ago. Only £400+ and has changed the whole look of the car. I made Photoshop mock-ups to help me decide.

Lots of V12 plates to be had brand new as not many people have the engine to go with them!

Is now the right time to draw attention to such a ginormous engine?

Cambridge University are furious with banks, who lend money to oil and gas exploration companies.
Cambridge University are quite happy to use oil and gas to heat their vast premises and also to use electricity (50% generated by burning gas). Do all their undergraduates complete a compulsory hypocrite module?

Protestors travel miles to reach Stonehenge, then tell everyone to immediately stop using oil and gas. Well not actually immediately, because they have to drive home.

The message of protestors, never seems to apply to them.

For decades i drove V6 cars and had a V6 plate, and then a V8 plate as well.
I no longer have either so opted for 3 or 2 digit with my initials which will go on any car.
I personally would now avoid Car related plates.

If you don’t care about what the actual plate is but just want something dateless, register for the next DVLA auction and then (assuming they haven’t stop sending them recently) watch out for the emails at the end of each day saying which plates failed to sell. They can be be bought at the reserve price (+fees).
